I was looking to go to tanzania with a couple of my friends in august and have had trouble finding good regional flights. We were looking at getting to victoria falls and were probably going to do it by train (i know it would be quite the marathon) but i was curious to know if there were any flights from dar es salaam to victoria falls or somewhere near by and what it would cost. I'm also curious to know about what the cheapest cost I can be expecting for flights from dar es salaam to nairobi, johannesburg, and mombassa. Any help is appreciated.

Plus if anyones got any suggestions of things to see or places to go in the region pls let me know, were still not completley sure of what our itinerary would be other then were going to try to climb kiliminjaro and relax in zanzibar.

hello AC878,

SAA just joined the Star Alliance and they are implementing a Star Africa Pass. Maybe this could be interesting as SAA flies to ZNZ DAR NBO VFA and also LVI !!!! Obviously via JNB, but you should think about it.

I thought I saw it on http://www.staralliance.com before but I didn't see it this time. Check on http://www.flysaa.com. There is at least a Press release with more details available.

I was just there recently. Most travelers would use JNB as the hub for flights within the region. So your best bet is definitely DAR-JNB and then DAR-Vic Falls and also SAA fly direct JNB-Zanzibar now. But you will have to use domestic service to Mt. Kilimanjaro. You will need to fly Kenyan airways to Nairobi and or Mombassa but they have excellent equipment 738s mostly.

Travelling regionally within East Africa is not particularly cheap. You mention travelling to Nairobi and Mombasa, which are served by Kenya Airways. Although Mombasa is not far from Dar, I believe the routing is still through Nairobi. If you combined your Kenya trip with your Johannesburg trip, you could use KQ all but the jaunt to Victoria Falls. If you are also flying into Tanzania on a Sky Team partner, you will accumulate a lot of miles.

KQ has a reservation seach engine on its site where you can check prices.

Well I was only looking for very cheap flighs, if there were any. Other then our fight into DAR, will be travelling by bus/train as it is much cheaper. I had been interested in a flight out of vic falls back to dar because of how long it takes from the two by train. Its something like 50 hours on the train, would be a little tough to do twice.
