LH also has expressed interest in returning to Australia in 2007/8 with it's A380. I also think TG and KE might fly theirs to SYD too.

I don't see Lufthansa doing it with the A380. They can do a roundtrip to China in half the time. It didn't work with Condor 747s, it won't happen with the A380. Put it out of your minds.

The rest of it I agree with, SQ will debut the aircraft on the route and be joined by Emirates and QF, and almost definitely Thai, Malaysia, Koreanair. Virgin is somewhat wide of the mark, I think the A40-600 is keeping them busy enough for now.

How good are the load factors for CAN-SYD with China Southern? They only have a bunchful of long range international routes and this route could one day handle an A380.

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Emirates Airlines.....Qantas....Singapore Airlines....Thai Airways....Malaysian Airlines....Korean Airlines....UPS????FedEx????
Hmmm, Lufthansa? Why would LH recommence services to Sydney with a A380 when they could operate the route now with the B744! I believe LH is happy the way things are & would deploy the A380 on the KUL,BKK & SIN routes to pickup pax from TG,MH & SQ....

Korean flew 744's to SYD for years, currently its only an A333. They only ordered 8 I think, 5 pax plus 3 freight, I think they will fly theirs to the US first.

I agree with the rest SQ, QF, EK, TG, MH and eventually VS I think.

In fact they even flew to Oz with 767s, and that didn't work either.

I think the LH colour scheme suits the 767, looks absolutely lovely. LH got this aircraft (or was it 2?) to try to make money on the Sydney route, having failed with thw 747. But alas the seven-six didn't turn the tide. Farewell Australis.

SQ :yes since they can not do it to SIN-HKG-SFO with the desired Payload they requested, this will be part of their inaugral route.

QF :well thats a big question mark Big grin

EK :yes they will bring it on that route

TG yes

MH yes

VS no not really VS has stated that 380 for them is for the N.American routes primarly JFK,LAX, is high on prioirty list. And afterwards other Asians cities.

Perhaps taking over OS's VIE-SYD route? The capacity of a 777 + some additional German capacity = perhaps enough to make profit on an A380 ?

When I doubt... go running!

I thought VS said they'd bring the A380 here when they get them ... don't they not quite have enough seats to sell at least on the HKG-LHR sector and that's limiting them on the SYD-LHR route?

(How are they doing HKG-SYD nowadays? It was pretty crap last time I read the reports here)

I think A380 will be too big for LH. It's a huge plane to fill and if they're going daily, they'll need THREE A380s for the route.

VS has delayed their initial 380 delivery due to the fact that LAX is not able to complete their 380 work on their terminal by their orginial set delivery time. And they have stated that LAX and JFK is first for them. SYD could see them but not the very first couple of flights. Besides its kind of hard for them to use up 2 or 3 380's for 1 daily flight between LHR-SYD.

VS definatly stated that the HKG-SYD route is likely to get the A380, but the aviation world changes so quickly.

They have 6 on order so 3 for HKG-SYD daily then a daily 2 LAX they could squeeze this out of 1 aircraft then 1 to JFK and maybe SFO.

3 aircraft is a waste of equipment for VS. Could terminate at HKG, better use in Far East and locations such as SFO, and also VS increased service to NYC recently to 6 flights daily. Maybe VS is doing lip service on SYD becuase with only a few in order there are more locations to use them for more $$$$.

Maybe so, but they already have 3 A346s doing the LHR-HKG-SYD route ... I don't know how well the HKG-SYD part is going but the LHR-HKG part is pretty good.

They probably do need the extra capacity of a 380 to really start promoting the LHR-SYD part. Here it doesn't seem as though VS flies to LHR at all, 90% of their promotion is to HKG. Let's not forget there is a Virgin-branded airline who can do the domestic connection here in Oz, so it's might not be too pie in the sky for them to fill daily A380s to London.

EK might have other ideas about that though!  Wink
