Tap Air Portugal has just received A-330. They are not new, and came due to A-350 order. I have heard that they are ex-Swissair's. Anbody knows about their effective origin ?

Hi!

Good morning PM, probably they already "did".....we still don't know!!! TAP have a background in all engines, first P&W with all their Boeings, then RRoyce with the L1011's and latest the GE with the A310's.....so it's not that hard I presume!!! Seriously I think TAP should pick the GE but they have now P&W A330-200's...I don't know!!! We should "flip a coin"!
Regards

CV990

Hi! I'm still waiting for a call from Lisbon so that I can tell TAP what to do. Curiously, it hasn't come yet...  Sad (I guess they're still sulking after I pointed out a typo on their English language website.)

Anyway, in case they read A.Net (I'm sure they do), my advice is to buy the PW4168A. Why?

1. It's an excellent engine on the A330. (Certainly better than the CF6-80.)
2. It's the engine on their three leased A330s so they'll have fleet commonality.
3. PW haven't sold an engine since about 1976 so they'll be falling over themselves to give TAP an excellent price.

Then there's the question of engines for their A350s. I know what to do there too but I'll first wait and see if they take my advice on the A330.

Hi PM!

Yes, absolutely right and agree with you 150%!!!! I also think that the P%W would be a great option for TAP, and the fact that they already use in their 2nd. hand ones might take advantage! I really don't understand why TAP havent phone you yet......do you want me to ask them that? Tssst, tssst, those guys don't have manners to people that want to help them!
regards

These A330s have been stored at CGN for almost a year, they were planned to fly for BlueWings, something which never happened... They look great in their livery.

Dunno. But both RR and PW have outsold GE on the A330. By the time RR delivered their 100th A330 (in the second half of 2001) PW weren't far behind with 94 deliveries but GE had got their engine on just 24 A330s - and that in spite of being the first to fly on both the A330-300 and A330-200. By signing up Qatar and Qantas (and later Air Algerie, Turkish, KLM, China Airlines and a couple more) GE have recently gained some ground but the CF6 seems to have been relatively unpopular on the A330 and it's still the least popular choice on the airframe.
