I was just wondering since Southwest started service to DEN are we going to get a special aircraft painted like Maryland 1? Or is it too small of a service right now?

I doubt it, not saying impossible but WN would have to be quite significant there. WN was at BWI for 10 years at least. WN is at MDW, and there longer at MDW yet Illinois doesn't have a special color scheme.

Southwest initiated service at BWI in 1993.

Southwest initiated service at MDW along with MCI, and STL in 1985. So if you were to go by longetivity then Illinois should have gotten a state flag.

It just all depends on how much an airline is devoted to the airport and the state.

Rumor has it that before a A/C is dedcated to a State like New Mexico 1 or Lone Star. WN has to have more the 50% of the Market Share in that State. so Colarado 1 is a way's off. but you can never Perdict that stuff...

Until WN starts flying to ERI, AVP, and MDT, as well as PIT and PHL, I doubt you'll see a "Pennsylvania One."

WN definitely does not have >50% marketshare in Texas or California (both states with themed planes)......

Didn't someone say that WN was to start FLA charters or something from LNS on here??? not sure why they chose THAT airport... although that is a rapidly growing area in PA...

I happen to think that WN chose Maryland and Texas because they both have really neat looking flags. I mean can anyone deny that those liveries don't look great. Great marketing tool IMO.

Tell that to AA and CO.

Hmmmm.
The whole state?

Well looking at the Top 10 markets out of Albuquerque, here they are, with the airline with the leading market share on the route.

1. PHX WN
2. DAL WN
3. LAX US
4. LAS WN
5. CHI AA
6. NYC AA
7. WAS AA
8. OAK WN
9. DEN F9
0. SAN WN

That doesn't explain the existance of Lone Star One  Wink

Actually, it is the other way around. I believe WN actually paints a plane in conjunction with a state tourism commission.

Like several people have said, that just isn't true

Isn't the reason that they paint the state planes marketing? They probably select the states were they have the biggest battles against rivals, which is why you see Texas (vs. AA, CO), Maryland (vs. US, UA), Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico (vs. HP) and California (vs. UA, HP, B6, AA). Silver One is arguably Arizona and Shamu could be California or Florida. PHL and PIT are relatively new and they US there.

I'd be interested in knowing where your numbers came from. Checking the most recent stuff from the DOT, US/HP is not the leading carrier in any market. Nor is Denver among the top 10 markets from ABQ. (it's #13)

Here's how the stuff I have paints it:

Destination Pax per day Leading carrier Mkt Share

PHX 1246 WN 83.3
DAL 927 WN 66.0
LAX 743 WN 90.0
LAS 739 WN 83.4
NYC 494 AA 48.6
CHI 486 AA 49.4
WAS 451 AA 45.3
HOU 451 CO 49.7
OAK 423 WN 89.2
SAN 420 WN 84.4
SEA 388 WN 53.1
BWI 332 WN 52.4
DEN 330 F9 54.6
