I am flying on a Delta 727 on August 27. I have been on the old scheme before and would love to know what percent of seven-two's are painted in the "old-new" livery. What's my chance?

I did a lot of spotting on my trip to the US in the first two weeks of July 2000, and have seen loads of Delta 727s, especially in Atlanta. Of the 49 DIFFERENT 727s I saw, 25 had the old-old livery, and 24 the old-new (1997-1999) colours! Because no 727s are reported yet in the new-new livery, this breakout must be still the same. I don't know, maybe Delta dedicates the 727s with the old or old-new colours on certain routes, but otherwise your chance to catch one in the old-new colours is almost 49% !
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

That is probably the most well researched answer I've seen! MEA-707, thanks a lot. Which of these do you like? Are they planning a 727 in the new-new paint?

When Delta first went to the old-new colors, I saw quite a few Delta Shuttle 727s in those colors. Now most of the Shuttle 727s are in the old-old colors. What I think happened is that Delta used to use their oldest 727s on the Shuttle, those with tail numbers N4--DA. They were painted in the old-new colors. Then Delta started withdrawing those aircraft and replacing the Shuttle fleet with newer 727s, those with tail numbers N5--DA, and most of those were still in the old-old colors. Is that why there are few Shuttle 727s in the old-new colors, when once there were many?

i flew on a delta 727 in the old new scheme the other day,i bet the chances of you seeing one is maybe 30% but for sure if you want to see one,go to ATL,SLC,DFW,cincinatti or MCO,by going to one of those airports, your chances are a helluva lot more likely.

I have gone to San Jose (SJC) about seven times this summer. There is a 727 flight to SLC that 6/7 times has been new old colors. From what I have seen at Delta hubs, I would say that your chances of being on a new old colors 727 are about 75%.
