Hooray For Lan Chile 340's

Hey I heard Lan Chile is getting 340's. I was wondering if anyone in the Santiago area or gets a chance to fly the bird can get me some snap shot well thanks

Mind you, given that Santiago, Chile is a long, long way from any city in Europe and North America, small wonder why they ordered the A343.

One thing that puzzles me is why they didn't order the 744 instead. That's because Chile has a substantial amount of business flights between Santiago and North America because Chile is a major exporter to fresh fruits and vegetables during their summer (which is winter in the Northern Hemisphere) and does a lot of business with especially the USA.

I would first like to know what do the fruits have to do with the airplanes.
Second, Chile is not only exporting fruits to U.S.A., but to Europe, too. Also, I do not know what the fruit buyers in U.S. would have to do with selling airplanes or if there's a hidden pressure by the US government increasing fiscal charges onto Chilean fruits so to force them buy Boeing. In such case we could be talking about blackmail or anything worse.
Third, A340 is cheaper than B744 by herself.
Fourth, one day someone was stating in another thread how strong the Dollar was in front of the Euro, and how good it was for USA. An answer to it was "how some countries suffer from strong currencies" and he could not understand it. Now, here you have, sir: it is much worthier to buy airplanes in Euros than in Dollars, because Euros cost much less Chilean money than dollars do.
And fifth, maybe you forget that an A343 and a B744 are not exactly the same kind of ship, and yes: Santiago is very far from many cities, and right now she has, along with 744 and by very little difference, the longest range. But a route from/to Santiago might not be as "fat" as for flying 744s.
