A new company, IW Airways, would run at least one 17-seater Twin Otter plane from the IW Airport if the ambitious plans, already backed by the IW Council, come to fruition.
With fares hopefully as low as £100 for a return to London and £140 to the Channel Islands, the business could also provide an employment boom and other improvements to the airport.
Those include a high-class hotel and the creation of a free-trade zone, both of which would create jobs on top of the 20-plus brought by the airline.
Two of the men behind the plan are IW Airport owner Dick Steele and property/holiday park owner Chris Williams, who also runs an aviation school from the site.
The third is an anonymous Island businessman.
Mr Williams, said though much work was required, scheduled services could begin late this year if all went well.
He hoped the service would run to the Channel Islands, London — hopefully City Airport — East Midlands Airport at Coventry and either Liverpool or Manchester.
"There is still a lot of planning required but the support we have had already has been tremendous."
He said IW Council leader Andy Sutton had supported the idea.

How weird. I was actually thinking about the possiblity of air links between the IoW and the mainland a few days a go. Flights to LON are obvious however it would be interesting to see if there's enough high yield demand to sustain a LCY service. MAN is the next obvious target, but EMA and LPL? not sure.
