Hope I share this ATC conversation clip here , which seems to be recently occured (April?) about an Vancouver Canada based ATC proposed to his girlfriend on the plane.

http://airplanepilot.blogspot.com/2006/04/marriage-proposal.html

which points to a recording here:
http://www.futurastudios.com/atc-marry-me.html

It seems to me, based on the quality of the recording, that it may be an actual tower recording.

Enjoy!

Any other country in the world and this guy would have lost his job - I really admire Canada (and the USA for that matter!) for their "relaxed" approach to the more unusual occurrences in life...

If I get thru ATC school without getting married I am SOOO going to do that too (provided of course it's not breaking a few laws)

In my younger days when I still had dreams of being a commercial pilot, I imagined I would do the deed by having the lucky lady (whoever that may be) on the same flight I was working and proposing over the intercom or something...awwwww.

it's probably been done before anyway, and now that I ain't doin the pilot thing, merely a pipe dream...

I wonder if theres a cute way for a journalist to propose to his girlfriend? Probably I should find a girl first before I start proposing...

anyway, good clip, haha.

I think he ended up going off frequency to do that and was talking to only AC187, which was already on the ground at that point.

Wauw he has steel nerves! You could just hear by his voice he is very *very* nervous.

As for the legal stuff maybe they can just make an exception! I don't think any other airplanes were bothered by it as much as they were amused.

I agree with you. I heard them talking about the which assigned gate they had to go to, so I assumed they were already on the ground taxiing to their gate.

In any way, it's a very nice idea by the Air Traffic Controller and I wish him all the best of luck with his wife. Congratulations Big grin

The guy would not lose his job as ATC controllers everywhere will strike up conversations if they have the airtime. For such an important event like that, which was nicely done, everyone in that tower would've been appluding him.

Yes it did, its hard enough doing it in person but do it over the radio to 100 some people. The sucky part is that he couldn't see or hear her.
