Was The MD12 Going To Be Built In Long Beach

I heard that if it was built the MD-12 double decker was going to be built in Gorega instead of Long Beach is this true. If so this would have been a bow to the Long Beach plant.

There was even some speculation that they would build it in SLC at one point back in the early 1990s. But cost and sales reality prevailed and neither MD or Boeing built a super-jumbo and let Airbus go for the A380, and look at the whole they've dug themselves!

If I remember right, no final site selection had been done when the project was cancelled, but besides LGB, Alliance/Ft Worth was a top contender for the final assembly.
