Read in the aviation news section that the FAA ordered all US airlines that have GE CF6 engines on their aircraft to inspect them for possible cracks in the engine spools. These cracks if not detected may cause an uncontained engine failure to occur.

I know they are on many MD-11's, all 4 of Finnair's MD-11 aircraft are GE CF6-80C2D1F engines... of course airlines outside of the US usually follow orders given by the FAA to US airlines, so I'm assuming Finnair mechanics (including you, Antti?) will be checking them quite soon.

The widebody aircraft that the GE CF6 is on depending on the airline are the 747, 767, A300, A310, A330, DC-10 & MD-11. American Airlines has the GE CF6 on all of their widebody fleet except the 777. Wonder if this will delay many of their operations. Many major European airlines have this engine on the widebody aircraft.
