To add a picture of the ongoing work from an archived thread.

It seems the old carpet is being pulled up bit by bit and replaced with tile. Not sure if they will carry this all the way down the concourse or keep it in the centerpoint areas only.

I didn't snap a picture of it but just beyond here next to the Crown Room they have walled off stuff and it says that new shops and eateries will be there to add to the ones already there.

The tile looks pretty good, has a touch of Concourse E to it.
Aside from the fact that tile looks better than carpet, does it have any other (dis-)advantages over carpet?

Tile is more durable and stain resistant but it is much noiser with feet clattering across it and echos. It is also harder on joints if you have to walk long distances on it.

The tile could break pretty easy if not installed correctly. I have to agree with the noise comment as chicks in high heels make a heck of a racket on it. My dress loafers aren't exactly quiet either now that I think about it.

I was in E yesterday and didn't even think about that. IIRC E uses a terrazzo floor instead of tiles but still quite nice.

Tile also tends to be a bit more expensive to start but last longer in the long run.

You're quite right that tile will break if not installed correctly -- a local mall here had tile installed the entire length about 15 years ago and had to do the entire job over again in less than a year when the tiles popped up and literally crumbled under peoples' feet. Pretty rare though.

There may also be an advantage to tile because carpet can emit "fumes" (e.g. the new building smell) after installation. I've heard debates over whether these fumes are harmful.

In any case, ATL did a good job. Glad to know that they're improving the looks of the concourses -- desperately needed in some spots!!

looks good but seriously can ATL install some moving walkways ala every other airport in the country?

Some see lines, others see between the lines.

They won't. At least not in the older concourses. Have you seen how jam-packed the already tiny walkways are? Cut another 3.5 feet out of it, and it will be complete hell trying to get through there.

I was out there last Wed and Thurs and my only wish is that any of the DL concourses have a PGA Tour Shop in them. I have this bad habit of buying Tommy Bahama or Nike Golf stuff when ever I run into one of those shops.

Has anyone seen the new gate arrangements? They have new seat arangements and new carpet. Last time I checked they had one renovated gate in E and 3 or 4 in B.

I wish they could open up the ceilings and sides for some more natural light and spotting but I think that would require a lot of work.

I wish but the space required might be too much given the width of the concourses.

There's one in T on the DL side if I remember correctly.

They've also added wood flooring in the boarding areas; it really adds a nice touch of class to the gatehouse.

They stopped there though and I don't think they have gone any further with it. I don't use B that much it seems except on coming back home. I haven't been at that end of B in 2 years but I do remember those gates looking good.
