Hi,

Flying Alitalia regularly, I find it intriging why they would have Alitalia and the registration of the plane on the wing. I can think of reason why Alitalia is on there, but the registration's reason puzzles me.

Can anyone shed a light on this?

It is a matter of each country's law. On some places there are strict regulations concerning the size and position of registration numbers on aircraft. Additionaly the style, fonts and colors are also things to be carefully reviewed when painting the aircraft in order to fully comply.
