SA/CX744 ZS-SAW Question

Hi, Can anybody tell me when former SA744 ZS-SAW enters service with CX as a Freighter. I know the A/C flew JNB-Xiamen March 15-16 2006 in full SA c/s as SA4288. Many thanks in advance from Timetable.

I don't think it has yet, I reckon it takes more than a month to convert to freighter.

Dont quote me but I think its at least 3-4 months for the conversion and there is already a CX (ex SQ) and a JL (ex JL) being converted.

Hard to say. There are talks going on with the union about how to expand the number of aircrew. There are a few suggestions but they need to sign an agreement first. If this is done, then it is quite possible for us to get more, however if it isn't done, then we will have a challenge crewing the aircraft we have on order, let alone get more pax 744s.

What is a more likely possibility though, is getting more 744s to convert to freighters. The freighters are crewed seperately, so are easier to expand.

It will be re-registered as B-HUS, I believe it is still in Xiamen.

9V-SMR and 9V-SMH are going to be converted to CX freighter configuration along with ZS-SAW and ZS-SAV.

I think you will find that the other 3 are for Freighter conversion or atleast they were, as CXFlyboy said above CX are short of aircrew but at the same time seem to be short of aircraft aswell.

My reply was in reference to us purchasing any MORE 744s for pax. It was not in reference to the 744s we already have planned on the way. I am not sure if we are getting anymore pax 744s out of the ones already announced...I've heard so many things that I cannot keep up with what is what anymore!!

Ok sorry I wasn't clear. CX originally brought 8 second hand 744's including orders for 6 744BCF's. 3 of the ex SQ aircraft have joined the pax fleet and CX converted B-HOU to a freighter so the 744 PAX fleet gained 2 aircraft taking the fleet from 19 to 21. The other 3 ex SQ and 2 ex SAA are/were originally for freighter conversion plus B-HOU so theres the 6 BCF's.

Sorry I misread that yesterday, so maybe the plan has changed, so you are saying that 9V-SPD will join the pax fleet? This aircraft is newer than all of CX's pax aircraft so I guess it could and even should be correct.
