Delays Of US Carriers

Hi,

I was just reading an article on flight delays in the euopean 'USA Today' today.
Since I don't have the paper anymore I can't give you detailed information but I do remember that the worst of all was :
1. America West
2. United

US Airways and Alaska were also pretty bad. The article was mainly about how bad United is at this time and how they could ever merge with US Airways. 2 of the worst customer orrientated and delayed airlines in the US.
As examples there was the following : ON a flight from DEN to ATL, Delta has only almost half of the delays that United has. Same thing on the DEN - CLE sector with UA and CO.

United is to put a lot of money in customer satisfaction, though.

The article is obviously out-of-date, as United's delays and cancellations have far exceeded America West's from April on. US Airways on-time performance only suffered during right before and after the threat of the flight attendant labor actions...generally its been good. Since May, Alaska's on-time performance has been very good.

Hello?!
Not to help any airline out here (especially with the problems at UA now, I'm sure they are more delayed than others) however, DEN is UA's hub and although I am not exactly sure on the percentage of flights UA has compared to DL and CO, which airline do you think is gonna be slapped with a delay first? One which has several hundred flights out of a certain city, or one which has about 12? Think about it.
(btw, I'm talking about ATC, and weather related problems)

My advice if you want to get around a delay when travelling from point to point.
Fly the airline which doesn't have the controlling stake at the departing airport. (of course you still have to do with the arrival issue)

For instance, when the weather is less than accommodating let's say for example in DFW, AA has alot of cancelled or delayed flights, yet UA's or any other airline into that city has very minimal delays.
Why? Because AA has the most flights to where it makes sense that they cancel flights into DFW seeings how they many more routings available rather than an airline which does not.

It's rather simple actually.

EVERY Airline has delays!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT just United. The problem with United is that the pilots are refusing to fly overtime. If they are about to start a trip that will put them over, they wont fly it, thus creating massive delays. Lets use this as an example. You are a 757 pilot and are about to fly a trip from IAD to LAX, now you are based in Washington D.C. so you are going away, on this trip. Now this trip will put you over by 4 hours. So, since the pilots refuse to fly overtime, they will ground the plane at IAD, and not fly the trip! So, then the next flight for that plane will be cancled, and so will most fo the others after that. If you have a spare plane that can fill in, put it in, in its place, but one flight cancled messes up the whole system!
