I was just noticing on the Boeing website that the company hasn't sold any 777s yet in 2006, are there any pending or possible orders that any of you know about for that model?

The SQ order expected next month could include B777-200LR or B777-300ER or both.

I think NZ is also expected to place orders for some birds, or at least confirm that they have ordered some as and unidentified customer. QR is also a possibility depending on whether the A346Enhanced outperforms it! AM might take a few more but they may lease them through the ILFC.

Or they're simply ordering more 772ERs to replace older frames, in compliance to company policy. You never know what SQ has in store.

If they do, will they still be RR Trent or will they decide to make common with their 777-300ERs and get GE90s?

The oldest B777-200ER in SQ's fleet, 9V-SQA, is not due for retirement until 2009. There are reportedly still some late 2007 slots available, so now would be a bit early to be ordering B777-200ERs to replace older models. It would not be too soon to order B787s to replace B777-200ERs.

That sure is an early retirement.

SQ normally retire aircraft after 12 years which, with fleet growth, results in an average fleet age of about 5 years.

I dunno, I just think back to the DC-10's and how long they stayed around, especially with NW, and it's hard for me to imagine that a significantly more advanced aircraft as the 777 made with more modern materials would need such an early retirement.

They won't be scrapped when they are retired from the SQ fleet. They will be sold to another airline.

Jet Airways may convert their 10 options for 10 firm 773ERs

China will order the 772LR, 772F & 773ER, up to 20 units split between about 3 carriers.

For pending orders, refer to Hamlet69s 2006 Orders thread

I know im stating the obvious but that would be pretty cool for fleet commonality as they share the same GE-90-115B's

I think most likely SQ will order the 787 to replace the regional 777s , SQ* series .

However, 772LR and additional 773ER are possible.

There is a chance CSA Czech Airlines orders a 772. They are between this plane and A343s to replace their A310s. I really hope they go Boeing.

Agreed, the 787-900 they could get 2010 or 2011, and those few 772ERs that will be retired in 2009, the 773ER, and A380 could make up for it until 2010-2011.

Yes, the 772LR definately, to further expand in N. America, and replace the A345, i'd say 10 of them.
As for the 773ER, i'd say they'll exercise their 12 options they have.

cheers, Konstantin G.

Their 744s have Pratt engines, the 772ERs, along with their 773As, A345s and A380s have Trent engines, the 773ERs (and if ordered the 772LR) would be oddballs with their GE90 engines and since SQ didn't order the 787/A350 at the moment, no engine decision for those. It seems to me the Trent engines would make sense, but then again, if they order the 787 and/or A350, it could go either way between RR and GE. That being said, engine commonality may not be a big issue for SQ anymore.

Considering they went with Airbus for the replacement of the 737 in their fleet, I think the A343 has the edge here
