Hello!
I have a 6:05 a.m. flight out of Fargo bound for Chicago on May 25th, and I just wondered what time I ought to be at the airport. Given that Fargo is a small airport and the flight is a domestic one, I would figure that one hour before should be enough. However, I'd like to get some input from the more experienced travellers who have been travelling across the US. I know that safety rules and procedures are taken quite seriously, so I would not risk losing my plane by arriving too late at the airport. Still, since the flight is so early in the morning, I'd prefer to sleep as long as possible as well! Any info would be appreciated!

An hour is sufficient for about any airline or airport that I have been to. Once you're at the airport you are usually fine. It's calculating the driving time that you need to worry about. I missed my last flight out of SoCal because of that.

I always give myself an hour, but even 40 minutes at FAR should be fine. It's not a busy airport by any standard. I was dropped off late there, only about 30 minutes before departure in fact, and I still made my flight.

An hour will be more than enough...that ORD flight is the only one leaving within 50 minutes of another flight (NW has a 0700 Airbus over to MSP; UA has a 0655 CRJ to DEN), so lines at security and check-in will be minimal...I'd say in this case arriving at the airport around 0515 should be more than enough to check-in, clear security, grab a paper and a bite to eat, sit in the gate area for a few minutes and then board.

OK, thanks for the info everyone.
I will be staying at a hotel relatively close to the airport the night before leaving, and, if I remember correctly, the hotel offers a shuttle service to the airport as well. I'm pretty sure traffic is light that early in the morning, so I'll leave the hotel around 5 a.m. then.

Yeah, if you just have carry ons and you use the automated check-in with no special requirements, 30 to 40 will be enough.
I flew out of FAR at least 6 times since last August.

Fargo only has one security checkpoint but since you are leaving on the early flight it will be a pretty short line at security. Since, the gate is only an earshot from the security checkpoint I have seen them hold the plan because they knew they still had passengers left to get on the plane. Your plan to leave the hotel around 5am is a good plan as their is some road construction around the airport vicinity at this point.
