I know that EL AL said that if AA were to serve Tel Aviv, that they would withdraw the alliance. Why won't AA start a service to TLV from DFW or EL AL remove a flight from JFK and transfer it to DFW,that way,the sched's don't compete with each other and what is the codesharing agreement between the two airlines?
like can you use/earn advantage miles on LY
what routes do they codeshare on?
thanks

AA and LY's reciperical codeshare arrangements are effectively dead. LY has announced its intentions to codeshare on flights to the Holy Land with one Delta Air Lines out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Oh, AA might start a JFK-TLV flight, operate it for 12 months with a 767-300ER, switch to a 777 for four more, the drop it, only to add another DFW-LAX
flight!! (only kidding).
AA is a better partner than DL for LY. LY cannot
and should not transfer a JFK frequency to DFW.
It fills all its flights to Israel from JFK and could
benefit from adding another one.

Although American would be a better carrier for EL Al to codeshare with, EL AL would still rather serve Atlanta over Dallas, mainly because of the large Jewish population there. But I could see a one stop service to TLV. DFW-JFK-TLV is definitely possible, not daily though. EL AL needs to continue to codeshare with American because of their significant prescence in Chicago which could help feed the LY flight to TLV, which, from what I have heard, is not doing that well. Also an alliance with AA could lead to them joining oneworld, which is and will be more powerful than Delta led Skyteam. EL Al is a great airline and it appears that AA is trying to do everything they can to continue the codeshare agreement.

OK boys, time for a reality check.
American is NOT a better partner than Delta for El Al. American has virtually NO domestic feed at JFK. They don't even fly to their hub in Chicago from Kennedy. I challenge you to look at their JFK schedule. They provide virtually NO connections for EL Al to feed.
Here the 18 North American cities that AA serves from JFK (AA and Eagle, but mostly Eagle): ALB,BUF,CLT,CMH,DCA,DFW,LAX,PHL,PIT,PVD,RDU,ROC,SAN,SEA,SFO,SJC,SYR,YUL
Compare that to then 28 North American cites served byt he DL code (mostly mainline Delta). Be sure to look at the size of the cities compared to AA's:
ATL,BDL,BOS,BWI,CLE,CVG,DCA,DEN,DTW,FLL,LAS,LAX,MCO,MEX,ORD,ORF,PDX,PHL,PHX,PIT,RDU,RUC,SAN,SEA,SFO,SLC,TPA,YYZ
There is no justification for the idea that AA is a better partner for El Al. Do you think that perhaps El Al has a vague idea of what kind of partner that American is??? They have been partner's for years. They would not be switching to Delta unless they KNEW it was a better option.
Also, oneworld in NOT stronger than SkyTeam. It isn't even a real alliance. The two largerst carrier's cannot even codeshare! oneworld will continue to disinigrate as AA moves closer to the Qualiflyer airlines and BA makes it's merger move. SkyTeam may be new, but it already has a strong base with key hubs in strong locations. It will continue to attract member and will eventually challenge Star. It may never have the number of airlines that Star has, but it will have strong positions in the world's largest markets. (North America, TransAtlantic...eventually the Intra-Asian market)
To sum...Delta is a far better partner for any carrier flying into JFK than American. It only takes a quick look at a schedule to see it. Don't assume that because it's name is "American" Airlines, it is the best airline partner.

Widget1, I think it would be more fair to list ALL domestic cities American serves from JFK, and there is no reason to exclude other cities that would offer connections, such as Latin American and Carribean service.
AA serves the following US and Canadian airports from JFK, in addition to those you listed:
BDL, BOS, BWI, CLE, MIA, ORH, SJU, YVR
This brings your 18 destination to 26, almost as many as you cite as having Delta service.
In addition, passengers could connect to/from the following foreign destinations on AA without the routing being round-about:
AUA, BDA, BGI, CCS, EZE, GIG, GRU, KIN, LIM, MBJ, PAP, POP, SDQ, STT, SXM
This adds another 15 cities with on-line connections, plus other cities having codeshared service (such as NRT, a JAL flight with the AA code).

from what you put,i also think that AA has more international destinations than delta,I don't mean european but in latin america and canada, untill now,AA was the only airline with a flight from YVR to JFK and the airline that just added it was Air Canada and I bet AA will add a lot of new routes out of JFK once the new terminal is completed in like 2006

Hello,
The US market out of TLV is mainly and mostly New York City because of the large Jewish population there.
There's hardly a market for DFW-TLV. The economic of the flight would be not so good as JFK-TLV and the customers can also travel via EWR on Continental for now. As pointed, Delta for example offers quite many connections out of JFK, that El Al's customers can take.
Texairport: What is about that plan of AA to start the JFK-TLV route you mention please? When did they have such plans?

hi Alain,
AA talked about starting JFK-TLV fairly recently but they did not operate it because EL AL said that they would immediately withdraw from the alliance that the two airlines have.
hope this helps,
