HAM's website says there is an observation terrace. Is this still open and is it any good?

There are currently 2 observation decks. One at each terminal. The old and definetly the best one on the old T1 is closed but you can take pretty decent shots from the 2 new teraces as well. Opening hours are stated on HAM's website. The T1 terace is free of charge, for acces to the T2 terace you need to eat something at the connected restaurant.

But there are far better spots around the airport, so if you've got more time then just an hour or 2 between 2 flights you should consider to visit one of these.

A very good website for spotting in HAM is Frank's www.fuairliner.de where you will find a pretty good list of spotting points @ HAM. Nevertheless things have changed in the past. Spotting point #2 isn't available any more, and point 3 "T4" is now known as T2.

If you want more info don't hesitate to ask me!

Thanks for the information, but I'm a little confused! You say the T1 deck is closed but then say it's free of charge. You also say two new terraces - are both of these located in T2?

Last summer a new terminal was build and 2 old terminals closed.

There were T1, T3 and T4. T1 and T4 had visitor decks but T1 and the terace on T1 are closed. The new terminal is our new terminal 1 and it has a visitor's deck as well. T4 is now T2.

So we've got 2 terminals, T1 and T2 which both have visitor decks. T1 free of charge, T2 connected to a restaurant. They're both pretty good but the light can be tricky during the day.

Thanks, makes perfect sense now!
