I think you are mixing up something here (or Flight is, but can't access the link). The Airbus MRO Network was launched up March 2005.

Europe: EADS Sogerma Services

Odd to see that mentioned - Enders said at the AGM yesterday that it was losing money hand over fist, and hinted that they might close it:-

"One of the actions is ensuring that the Route 06 cost savings reach their target, and Forgeard's German counterpart, co-CEO Tom Enders, said the initiative was "on track".

"Another is a widely expected plan to halt losses at EADS's aircraft maintenance subsidiary in southwest France, Sogerma, where about 500 jobs are at stake.

"Sogerma is bleeding. We had more losses than expected in 2005," Enders told the EADS annual shareholders' meeting.

"EADS says Sogerma losses widened by 198 million euros in 2005 but has not given the total of losses at the unit, which is not separated out in the accounts since it is small in the context of total EADS operating income of 2.9 billion euros in 2005.

"About 400 Sogerma workers protested alongside the runway at the Bordeaux-Merignac airport two weeks ago against possible job losses and closure of their plant.

"Enders said "significant" decisions would be taken in weeks."

They weren't taking about closing EADS Sogerma, just the possibility of closing the Bordeaux site of it.

Only said 'might', A319XFW.

If it's losing money on that scale (E198M. isn't the total losses, that's just the increased losses in 2005) I doubt that just a few redundancies will turn it round.

Anyone know how Airbus manages to make losses on that sort of scale on maintenance? The popular wisdom is that maintenance over the life of the aircraft they sell is where manufacturers make a lot of money, not lose it?

Sorry, I thought you meant might close the whole thing whereas I was refering to might close the one site!

And surely you mean Sogerma in there instead of Airbus? But the unions have been trying to get other EADS subsidaries (e.g. Airbus and Eurocopter) who are currently recruiting, to take the Sogerma workers.

Sorry in my turn, A319XFW, should have put 'EADS'.

Enders was referring to the whole of Sogerma, though, not just Bordeaux:-

"Sogerma is bleeding......"

Still seems odd that their maintenance side seems to be such a 'loss centre'. Buying things like aeroplanes is optional, keeping them maintained (at whatever cost) is not.

This is something to be proud of. For such a small country to be listed among others who are much much advanced.

Of course it is. However, excellence can come anywhere, and Aeroman has proven itself to be one of the very best in the world on the A320, giving both Air Canada and TIMCO a run for their money on quality. Aeroman even tracks the aircraft for six months after return from a C or D check, to be able to compare the quality of its work against its competitors.
