Quoting Gkirk (Reply 5): what aircraft are under that mess?
Well what I've read on the website off a belgian newspaper (Het Laatste Nieuws) is that at least one Armavia A320 and one belgian military C-130 have been destroyed.
A Jetairfly Boeing was parked in the other hanger (seen in picture 2) but was not damaged and has now been parked elsewhere. It should normally have performed a flight to Alicante this morning (06:00 local), but they leased a Boeing 757 instead to do the job (departed 12:00 local).

Wow ... the heat in there must have been tremendous. A very good example of how high heat fatally weakens a steel-truss structure. Airplanes are replaceable, people are not; in a fire like that, goal #1 has to be GET OUTSIDE. You never know when (and that's when, not if) that roof is going to come down.
Looks like it pulled the front wall down with it, too. I well imagine, any aircraft in there not damaged by fire/heat likely was by falling debris. And falling steel trusses are pretty heavy. Not a good day ...
Hangar fires always amaze me. Here you have this giant open space, and usually it's a basic steel building, and yet it gets that involved fire-wise. Just wow.

Alas we all know now how hot burning jet-A is, and what temperature steel structural supports melt at.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

30 Scouseflyer: I'd say that badly damaged is an underestimation, that plane's going nowhere!

57 Atmx2000: Of course there is the possibility someone is targetting the airline, and Sabena is just an unlucky bystander. Insurance fraud?

61 BA: This is a very unfortunate incident, but I am glad there were no deaths. I especially feel bad for Armavia... There is something called insurance...
62 Bh4007: Is it similar to most other "policies" in that the more claims you make the higher your "premium"? (not sure on the aviation terms for insurance!)

65 LVZXV: I think they have an Il-86 too, the Tu-134 I know they got rid of. Anyone would have thought that Armavia had burned-down an orphanage for that much
