Hello,

FRA
When did start operations there?
What aircraft were used?

CDG
I think they started operations on BKK-ORY in the 1950s.
I remember the airline used the 747-200, MD-11, and now 747-400. When did they switch aircraft? Any other type operated on the route?

AMS
When did Thai Airways start its AMS operations?
When did they discontinue them?

London
What airport do they serve?
Aircraft operated please?

Special Color Scheme
Any information about the special royal color scheme please?

United States?
What service do Thai Airways offer to the US?

Thank you,

Sorry, I can't answer your questions but I have one for u.
Are you doing any records of airlines or something ?? I just wondered why u ask so many questions like, 'when did XX, XY, XZ, ... start service to ...' Yesterday there were like 13 posts from u.
Just curious.

Thai originally served AMS via Zurich. Thai ditched services to AMS in 1998 and now the aircraft stays 8 hours on ground in Zurich.

Hello,

Thank you for the information!

B737-700: Actually I love learning about the air transport industry and that's true I gather the information on my hard disk
I know I ask a lot of questions on a lot of details

Also I post more these days than usual, because I have quite much time (which is not always the case unfortunatly :-()

Sorry! I cannot answer all the questions either

FRA :
Service started in 1973 with DC9-41
then to DC-10
then to 747-200
then to MD-11
then to 747-300
then to 747-400

Paris ( CDG )
Service started in 1976

AMS
Service also started in 1976 , however halted for some reason ( no idea either ) however I saw Thai's old office last year in AMS , although currently unoccupied

LHR
Service started in 1973
probably the same aircraft order as FRA

apart from these destinations , also :
BKK - CPH started in 1972
BKK - ATH started in 1976

Special Color schemes
3 aircrafts are painted in the special color schemes to promote the H.M.King Bhumibhol's 6th cycle birthday. 2 of the 747-400 ( HS-TGJ , HS-TGO ) are painted in the picture of the main boat used in the Royal Barge ceremony down the main river of Bangkok every year , the boat's called Supanhong, which is made specifically for the king , the ceremony had been taking place for over a 100 years already . While the A330-300 (HS-TEK) is painted in the picture of another boat , Narai-Songsuban , another important boat in the ceremony.

USA
service started into the USA in 1980 with the arrival of the jumbo 747-200 in 1979 , to Los Angeles , also with BKK - SEA added in 1981

Many of these info might be inaccurate... but this is the best I can do...

Just another add-on

There's also
BKK - Rome - Madrid , now by 744

BKK - ATH was done by 743 , then 744 , and changed to 777-300 a few months ago

LAX is now done through KIX and NRT, never any non-stop for BKK - USA by any airline ( probably the same for SIN and KUL too )

SEA had been discontinued for a long time already...

Some addons about the FRA-BKK
TG 920/21 is opperated by both B744 (with the new firstclass seats) and 772/773

TG 922/923 is opperated by MD11

TG 921 departs FRA @ 1505 7 days a week, while TG 923 departs @ 2210 3 days a week

LHR-BKK is served by TG 911 and 913which all is opperated by 744 aircrafts. TG911 is departing 4 days a week @ 1200, and at last Tg 913 three days a week @ 1050.

ATH-BKK is served by both 744 and 773. The 744 is coming in from Rome 2 days a week and leaves ATH @ 1730. This service stops on 30 June, bacause from 4 july the ATH-BKK is served by a 773 leaving on the same days and same time as the 744 but it is not coming in from otherplaces than BKK.

Hope this helped a little

Hello,

I didn't know the 777-200s and 777-300s came on Europe! (FRA and ATH).
Thai is in this regard the sole Asian airline to operate this type on Europe.

As the matter of fact,
Thai only has the 747-400 into FRA

however TG946/947 BKK - ATH - BKK is indeed the 777-300. No 777-200 of Thai are flown intercontinental since the seating's configured into a cattle-truck config.

Jak

Today Thai operate 747-400 twice daily fight from London Heathrow to Bangkok with London-New-Delhi-Bangkok three times a week using 747-300/200. Thai also flies into Los Angeles twice daily from Bangok via Tokyo or Osaka using 747-400. Until the mid 90's Thai also operate Bangkok-Amsterdam-London, but since the delivery of 747-400, Thai inaugurated a Bangkok-London non-stop service along with Bangkok-New Delhi-London. Thai continues to fly into Amsterdam Sciphol but Amsterdam-London was suspended.
In the 80's Thai also flew into Seattle and Dallas/Fort Worth. Bangkok-Tokyo-Seattle-Dallas. The route was very seuccesful for a few years due to promotions but was later suspended. The route was operated by 747-200. Thai also flew to Canada in the 80's. Thai flew into Vancouver using 747-200 and on to Toronto using Airbus A300. In 1993, Thai flew A310 to Guam non-stop from bangkok, within a year, the flight was proven unsuccesful and was suspended. The flight to Canada was also stop due to the same problem.

On which routes does Thai use the MD-11? Will they replace this aircraft in the near future?

Giantjet: Did u said that TG's A300 flies to Toronto in the early 90's? I'm not sure if a A300 can operate a nonstop flight like Bangkok to Toronto with a short stop.

And TG's special color scheme is also a promotion advertising for Thai's Tourism Bureau. The front part of the jet also said "Amazing Thailand".

Regarding to the newest Thai scedule (1 month old) Thai opperates Tg 920/921 with both 744, 772, 773 although flying longhaul with the 772 configuration looks crasy.

BTW: when did thai retired their 742. It's realy bad that they are out, now they only have two crown jewels in their fleet: HS-TGE and HS-TGD the great 743
