Good news but not all too surprising considering the fast growing popularity of Sharm El Sheikh. 5511 pax travelled GLA-SSH in April 06 compared to 1530 in April 05. Great numbers but hard to believe considering the few flights on the route.

I hope the resort can keep the title for a while longer...just need to see more flights being introduced.

SSH is a massly growing destination from the UK... next year TOM have announced flights to commence from LPL, and XLA shall be starting flights from HUY... I think there are a very limited number of UK airports without connections to SSH nowadays!

XLA are starting their B747 flights there this summer too - therefore further increasing capacity from LGW!

I think it's also a matter of time before Egyptian carriers start operating flights inbound to the UK from SSH!

The flight has run for the last couple of summers, it's just that now Air Atlanta Europe and Excel have ben combined into a single operation the EUK code has been changed to XLA.

Also LBA is expected, probably with Astreus. So far the only known tour operator is Panorama, though I'd expect Airtours to take some seats as well since they own Panorama

Some of the bigger ones

EDI
EXT
NWI

Are there any flights from LTN, STN or LHR (Egyptair?)?

OH... didn't know that!

Well there's still been a lot of expansion in other area's of the UK this summer anyway, so no doubt we'll see capacity increasing more and more over the coming years...!

Yep- seems popular with people from the West of Scotland. Hurghada will be a regular addition again from Novemner with TCX.
Can imagine an increase in flights from GLA to perhaps some of the other resorts - Taba ?

The $66.6 million terminal building (4m capacity) is due to open in July 2006 (several months behind schedule thanks to the contractors) and was 95% complete in April 06. In addition a new $10 million tarmac is under construction which will help increase the airport's capacity from 33 to 48 planes. Also the contruction of a new 4km runway started in March.

Here are a few pics I took in January:

I'll be flying to SSH a week on Thursday and will try and grab a few more pics.

From LGW Astraeus and GB Airways have scheduled flights to SSH. In fact GB Airways announced yesturday the doubling of their flights this winter from the current 2x weekly service to 5x weekly flights. Here is their schedule for the winter 06/07 season:

LGW-SSH BA6858 -234-67 09:15/16:25 5hr10min 0 EQV*
SSH-LGW BA6859 -234-67 17:25/21:10 5hr45min 0 EQV*

*4 flights are with A321 and 1 with A320.

I wonder if they'll launch MAN-SSH?

Egyptian charter carriers have been reluctant to serve the UK, due to what they percieve as British tour operators' bias towards their in-house airlines, making it difficult to enter the market. Having said the Luxor Air have LXR-MAN flights (operated by Eurocypria B738s) and new airline, Koral Blue, have stated they'll serve the UK when they launch flights in October with 2 A320s.

Yes they've been using their B742s and B743s to SSH (on Sundays) and HRG (on Fridays) for a few summers now.

Maybe not EXT, but I would imagine EDI and NWI getting flights this winter.

Not at the moment.

Egyptair have been operating a weekly SSH-LHR-SSH A320 service since 2003. Flight details:

SSH-LHR MS766 ------7 11:15/15:00 5hr45min 0 A320
LHR-SSH MS765 ------7 17:00/00:30+1 5hr30min 0 A320

As for STN, BY operated a weekly B752 flight during the winter 05/06 season.

Quoting Cwldude (Reply 5):

I'd expect more services/routes in November when the winter season begins (that's the high tourist season for Brits seeking winter sun).

I would imagine TCP being launched next, followed by LXR then HRG. I don't see RMF getting flights soon though.

I missed that comment.

New LBA-TCP Flights (by Horus Apr 14 2006 in Civil Aviation)

So Astraeus announce LBA-TCP and now there's talk of LBA-SSH. Music to my ears (and probably Capital146's too).

Humberside, are these flights expected in W06/07 or S07?

Horus
