Looks like ET is still trying to set up it's hub in accra.
"The long awaited partnership and Ethiopian Airlines Hub and Ghana International Airlines (GIA) Limited, has been delayed for another six months.
Tewolde G. Mariam, Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales told Capital that the partnership, which was due to be finalized in April, has been delayed due to management reshuffling at GIA.
Ethiopian Airlines and GIA had agreed in 2005 for Ethiopian to set up its West Africa Hub at Accra, in a partnership that would see the two carriers working together in terms of management and technical support. "

Selam folks,
If I were to deal with GIA now, based on what we read in the media (unfortunately, I do not have any other source), I would not even touch it with an electric pole, let alone buy into it or have any sort of agreement with it. So much has been said and the level of drama is worthy of an Oscar award.

My prediction:
There will be no codeshare, there will never be a true ET hub in ACC and G0 will likely will fold in under the cloud of corporate corruption/theft and missed fuel/lease/landing fees.

I was at LGW the other day and was talking to a manager at Aviance, G0's handling agent and it seem there are a lot of cancellations and delays due to owed money to Fueling companies etc... how can they be in such a mess already?! I also heard that load factors are as low as 10pax per flight! come on G0 get it together you have a huge market!

I may be mistaken, but I thought that was why ET leased the 744's. According to ATWonline, they are receiving those a/c this year.

The 744's are mainly to increase capacity on the Dubai, Lagos and Luanda routes, and also to China on the PEK, CAN and HKG routes

Does ET route ALL of their CAN and HKG flights via BKK? I almost flew ET BKK-HKG last year. Do you know how well ET does with their 5th freedom rights on these routes?

I'll make a prediction here that the 744's are one more example of an announced move the ET does not follow through on.

Quoting AF022 (Reply 10): When are the 744s coming to ET?
I see 744 on DXB and LOS routes as of June 4, per Sabre. I also see June 9 to Luanda (which appears to be sold out), and Brazzaville/Kinshasa as of June 14. Have not seen any pics however, and you can imagine what the anticipation is doing to me ...

Can you please give me examples of announcements ET made and did not follow through. By the way ET has yet to announce they have leased 744's. It was announced here on A.NET by A.NET members.

Selam ETStar.
I can't wait to see the 744 in ET colors here in ADD.

True, unannounced by airline, but reported by Air Transport World on May 2nd as Girma Wake saying "The carrier also will wet-lease two Air Atlanta Icelandic 747-400s later this year for flights from Addis Ababa to the US and Asia" (http://atwonline.com/news/story.html?storyID=4922).
Looking up some of ET's flights, I already see the above noted flights as operated by a 747, although no sight of any to the US.

There was a recent press release indicating new service to Juba. The press release has been taken off the ET website.

An ET/GIA partnership is one of the better ideas for African air travel: It would provide great connections in both West and East Africa and reasonable connections to Southern Africa.
Short sightedness by the expected participants may end up killing a great idea. If they don't do it now, they may lose the lead and never have the opportunity to do so.
ET seems to have completely changed their summer schedule. EBB-NBO daily? What is that all about? Can they really compete with KQ's multiple dailies?
ET as noted lately is on a very ambitious drive to expand its services, and doing the EBB-NBO run is yet another example of what it's up to. KQ definitely has a monopoly on the NBO-EBB/BJM/KGL routes, and it seems that ET is making good use of the idling aircraft to go after such opportunities.

Isn't the government of Ghana meddling in the operations of GIA? As in forcing out some of their officers?
If this is indeed the case, I am not surprised by this sad delay.
