YEG-IAH Who Will Pick It Up?

Well now that CO has left the YEG market,edmonton airports authority has announced it expects re-introduce service back to the lonestar state.The rumor I have been hearing is that Jazz will introduce a once daily YEG-IAH nonstop using a CRJ-705 much like the YYC-IAH flights.CO had medium sized loads on the route wich they offered once daily(albiet with crappy times)as a result many pax chose to travel through YYC wich had better flight times(I was one of them).Hopefully if Jazz picks up this route they will offer better arrival and departure times.Some people seem to think AA may be returning with a YEG-DFW flight but I find that unlikely.

It would be nice to see some AA metal in YEG!! I am quite surprised that Continental yanked this route - I know quite a few people who have flown this route, and the flights were full each time.

It rally doesn't make much sense between two energy dependent markets as Edmonton and Houston. One way to do this route require a stop in SLC is to go DL Connection/DL or since CO is a SkyTeam partner they have several direct DLC to IAH options. But going YEG-SLC-IAH with the single layover is an option none the less.

While I think AA probably could make a single daily MD80 work on YEG-DFW, if it offered fast and easy connections onward to IAH, I doubt AA would jump into the market without a strong presence on the YEG end.

Just maybe 737 service since more Song 757s are freeing up mainline 737-800s from trans-cons. YVR and YYC will likely be upgraded to 737-800 and even 757-200 service into SLC during the summer I'm hearing.

Agreed. IINM, it started out as a 7-8pm departure IAH-YEG, and then a 6-7am departure the following morning YEG-IAH, with the plane obviously RON at YEG. Then, I know they changed it in the last year to doing a redeye YEG-IAH. I understand that CO probably didn't want to RON the plane at YEG, and thus loose about half its flying day from IAH the next day, but it seemed like an odd schedule for a route that was supposed to cater to business customers. Although, then again, business customers might have liked being able to finish business in YEG at night and be back in IAH the next morning, without having to pay for a hotel (although obviously not enough if CO dropped the route).

AA killed their lonely flight a few years ago after thyeir tie up with good old CP. That flight used to stop in YYC on the way to DFW. Will AA come back again...not too sure

I doubt AC would introduce a flight to IAH...why should they.

A link from YEG to Texas is badly needed...but then again most airlines tend to igonre YEG...even SFO wasn't served until a couple months ago...

Well when you consider they just added YEG-LAX using a CRJ-705 a few days ago,why wouldnt they???They offer that route out of YYC too but obviously were there is demand they will offer flights.The market to Texas isnt getting any smaller from YEG with all the oil buisness going on.
The number of U.S. corporate jets flying into YEG a week from Texas is mindblowing.

For the aircraft it was a short layover. The plane got in around 0030-0010 and then left several hours later around 0700. So the RON for the aircraft was uneventful. The crews did have a 30 hour layover. (for the record, they were great) This was upto and including the last flight on the 14th or 15th of February.

The yield probably wasn’t there. Much like some of CO’s other routes that were pulled, like LAX-PPT-AKL-SYD. The YEG-IAH was full the times I flew them. The IAH-YEG flight was no so full. They were great flights and even better customers. (A little biased as I married a Canadian)

YEG will be missed.

Also something else of interest is that this wasnt COs first foray into the YEG market,the company used to fly a 727-100 into the city up till 84-85 roughly.I believe this was service to IAH aswell.I remember as a kid seeing them here along with other greats like Western,Wienair,Republic,and the old Frontier.

well....I am not really sure that the LAX flight is an indication that AC is going to add more flights (especially to IAH)

When you consider that this was a route that was dropped time and again due to supposedly low yields and the "wrong" aircraft size, and there was too much pressure on AC to fly at least one US route out of YEG.....THey flew to DEN, ORD (CP)....maybe with the economic boom, things have become more viable
