That's the so called "hybrids". When airlines don't have time to paint short leased aircrafts or want to save money, they remove any title of the former airline and put just a title with the airline name (the actual one) or as in this case, just leave the plane with no remarks of the previous operator.
I enjoy very much to shot hybrids because in just a couple of years they can become rare photos.

What was that all about!? He just tried to answer the question that he thought you asked. Man you have an attitude, please just calm down. We really don't need yet another fight.

I agree with FlyF15. What's wrong with something like "Yes, I know but whose paint scheme was it before"?

Don't worry Flyf15, I'm not going to fight just because this. There are more important things to me worry about.

Good luck Seriouslyfunny...

Mirage's message must have appeared differently in your browser to mine. I only saw a bit of additional information about photographing hybrid schemes for their rarity.

Do you have some closer pictures of this plane? I can't tell the color of the cheatline or what that logo on the upper starboard side of the plane either. I'll try to help. Thanks.

Hey Seriouslyfunny! Sorry about all the crap you had to take to get your answer, but:

The MD-11 in question was leased to CityBird, and recently came off of that lease and went to Monarch. Not sure about who the lessor was/is...be interested to find out, though. If anyone has any contrary information, please don't hesitate to post it here. Although, if you do, I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate.

The lessor, as your initial post states, is indeed World Airways, and it's still my belief that the aircraft was formerly on a lease with CityBird. I'll be anxious to see if anyone else locates information to the contrary.
