It appears he's bought out his partners leaving himself with sole control of BD's financial interest and direction.

Could this be leading to something...???

Maybe he is fed up with all the U-turns the present partners kept doing and wishes to bring some stability to the airline and its brand?

BD's slots at LHR alone must be worth millions. SRB (and other airlines) would do anything to get his hands on them, so shares in bmi would be a wise investment unless it becomes open-skies and unrestricted slot availability at LHR, which is unlikely to happen.

"unrestricted slot availability" will never occur, there are only so many gates available at LHR, and all are currently full, meaning a slot cannot be issued.

Bermuda 2 will dissapear eventually, allowing any airline to operate to LHR, however they still need to get the slots, either by trading or buying them off another airline.

If SAS wants to sell it's share and Stuart Balmforth and John Wolfe also sold theirs that could have made SMB a minority shareholder, or if LH had purchased this share... he would have been reduced to a very minority interest.


Now he can be certain to keep overall control.

lets see who buy's SAS's share... thats what'll determine the future.. if LH buy's it.. the futures obviously good for FF's and Star Alliance and a third major airline at LHR, maybe even a threat to VS.

If LH or SMB doesnt... use your miles quick... as obviously their only waiting for shareholders payday.

Part of the BBW partnership was that any partner could only sell their shares to another of the BBW partners. They could not have sold it to any ther company or person. Seen as SMB was the only active member of BBW within the company, the other two having been retired from the company for over 10 years and with no interest in the company, it was in all their interests to sell to SMB.

I agree however, that this does bode for some kind of announcment in the near future about the companys direction.... my money is on LH.
