Why Do Converted Freighter Aircraft Cover Windows?

I have always wondered why the airlines who convert passenger aircraft to freighter aircraft cover the windows as well. I mean, doesn't this just add time, money, and extra weight (for window covers)? What is the reason behind this?

They remove the windows and replace them with metal ones.
Less maintenance and better fire protection

Quoting Kaitak744 (Thread starter):
What is the reason behind this?

When an ac is converted to cargo mode, all the internal commercial out-fitting is removed including the shades used by passengers to shut the windows.
While flying at high altitude, the influence of the sun light entering the fuselage through the windows is not negligible in terms of heat and dis-coloration, which may affect the cargo transported.
Hence the specially covered windows.

Three reasons:

1. The plastic windows have to be inspected periodically.
2. The metal plugs last forever.
3. Boxes don't care if they cant see outside.
