I have been wanting to get on a DC10 for a few years now, however due to rising fuel prices and air fares, my ride on a DC10 never happened. However I will be starting college in August and in 1 or 2 years my internship with Northwest will start, which will hopefully give me a ride on a DC10. So how much longer willl NWA be flying their DC10's?

About until the end of the the year (2006) for almost all of the transatlantic ops....im not sure about HNL to NRT or their other pacific ops...so you better hurry! best chance would be to take MEM-AMS or the 2nd daily MSP-AMS flight I believe is a 10 on and off....

Prediction - NW will announce that the last DC-10 has been retired. The following day A.netter's will ask "When and with what is Northwest going to replace their aging fleet of 757s?"

This will of course be followed with speculation about when Northwest's first flight attendents will be retired  Wink I'M KIDDING - please, no flaming, I love all of you who work for NW!

The youngest NW DC-10s are N243NW and N244NW, delivered as JA8550 and JA8551 to Japan Air System in July 1988.

The oldest one must be N236NW, delivered as HL7315 to Korean Air in 1974.

You might want to check that again. 46934/160 was delivered to KE on 09FEB75 according to a production list that I have

My fault, your numbers must be right. Still I believe it must be the oldest one. (Speaking of construction numbers)

N223NW is cn 46580/183 mfd 1974, to Swissair as HB-IHF, to NW October 1991.

We are still waiting for a winner in the "last Parked" DC-9 question ,no fair starting on the 757 lottery until the NWA diesel 9s are parked, and the prize money is paid.
I'm standing on my 2012 entry, although with the price of oil , I might buy a 2010 date too ?  stirthepot
What is your "last one parked" date?  duck

Personally, I have a very fond attachment to the DC-9 - it was the aircraft of my first flight and it is still one of my favorites. There's nothing quite like the feeling of a tight turn in a DC-9.

However, I'm willing to bet on 2010-2011 as well, as I have a feeling Oil at 70$ per bbl is likely here to stay.

I saw N236NW sitting at the hanger closest to the Mall of America at MSP today. I got the feeling that its most likely getting ready to leave the fleet. The paint dosent look to good it, and it was just sitting there with no mx equipment next to it like the other aircraft that park there for mx. Very lonely looking.  Sad

There is always Omni Air but you would have to be on a military charter for that one. Flew them last June. Pleasant suprise and I got a great window seat behind the wing.

Just saw DC-10-30 N229NW of Northwest at OpaLocka awaiting its sad fate at the hand of the scrapers. I heard this is one of the high time DC-10's in the world---around 125,000 hours.....any other information would be appreciated.

1236 has been officially retired and is in the process of going to Omni Air as a spare parts a/c. Omni is also in the process of aquiring 5 DC-10 ER's from NWA (1238, 1239, 1240, 1243 and 1244).
The current plan is to end schedlued NWA DC-10 operations by January 8, 2007. The MSP-HNL-MSP flight is to be the last.

Will MSP-HNL be only offered as a 1-Stop after 1/8/07? I can't seem them flying it with the 330's.

Why cant you see the 330 to HNL? It makes perfect sense. Better economics and the ability to a/c swap with the -200 should capasity warrant it. It also would be another rotation point for the 330s to get back to the states for mx. I would think HNL-KIX would become a 330 as well. I can see NWA using a combo of 333s and 332s interport, especially after the 787s come online. This way they have a seamless product as well as a/c flexibility.

I would love to try the 330 out to HNL, if I can get back there. My assumption, if what we hear on a.net is true, would tell me yields on the route do not warrant that plane, especially with the WBC cabin. Mr. Steenland is free to prove wrong anytime he wants.
