I'm surprised after looking around that no one posted anything about the opening of the first part of the new Pajas Blancas International Airport, in Córdoba. This first part will eventually be joined by a second area to be built on the site of the old building (to be demolished), so when both new buildings are joined the airport will double over this first part of the new building.

Anyways, here's a few pictures I found, from the night before the opening of services:

Any chance of COR getting any service to the states? Like AA to MIA or DFW? DL to ATL? Very nice terminal, hopefully the planners from SLC are looking since they are in dire need of doing the same type of upgrade, only on a grander scale!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is all I can say about the new terminal. Such a beautiful terminal and such a HUGE improvement on the old facilities. I am sure that as the Argentine economy improves, traffic numbers are sure to increase!

PS:
Any news as to when construction of the rest of EZE will commence? Heard that the cargo terminal was taking shape first. Is this correct?!
 Wow!  champagne

The EZE project is right now the victim of a conflict. Well, several conflicts, between AA2000 (lease, as the spanish word would be, a falling apart Eurnekian seems to have developed), with SEA the Italian company that partly finances AA2000 projects, and himself and thru extension AA2000. I'm not privy to the details but lets just say the head honchos of the Italian subsidiary are quite unhappy about certain minutia and large details, and now seemed to be reluctant to pony up part of financing they were supposed to chip in for the EZE project.

Since AA2000 by itself cannot do this, and other issues, the whole thing is literally in limbo at the moment. It is supposed to happen, but it's not. It has not been cancelled, on the other hand, and won't be either. You figure it out.

I had heard rumours of Delta working for an ATL service, I don't know where things are with that given Delta's current misfortunes. AR is always mulling a COR-MIA service, and I think that a seasonal one would certainly work. But right now just more flights to Brazil and an extra SCL service. On the other hand, I'm not sure what happened to the VVI-COR service by LAB given that airline's current misfortunes, or even the extension leg to SLA.

Pretty terminal COR, Congrats!
As for new international flights to COR - People in the Travel/Aviation business here (PTY) think that COR could be among CM next set of new destinations, maybe as early as 6 months from now to take advantage of the Southern hemisphere Summertravel season.
Most likely there'll be a 0345 arrival from PTY / 0515 departure to PTY at least 4 times per week, no doubt on B737-700.

I don't work for COPA Airlines!

Delta is not planning COR service. Cordoba officials have approached Delta, but it is just a far fetched dream. American Airlines, on the other hand, is strongly considering flying MIA-COR, with their new winglet-equipped 757s.

I would really like seeing an AA service to COR, but I think politics might get in the way given tha Argentina had Cat B status (many say unfairly), which put the local carriers at a disadvantage in flying rights. The government will probably push all the buttons they can so that AR gets that route.

Politics will not get in the way. Argentina is once again Category I. There is little stoping AA nor AR from applying for the route. The simple fact is that if AA applies, and Argentina's avaition authority denies, then the US DOT will deny AR from operating the route.

Well, of course, it would just be a matter of 'who gets their first'. Then again this would mean AR has decided to apply, which as far as I know nothing has been heard of yet.

Would AR be denied if they go for the service instead of AA?

Personally I would think that AR would much rather increase services to MIA or even begin services to LAX??!!

As much as I would love to see heavier traffic into COR, I doubt it would happen any time soon!
