Yes, it is.. UPS is also buying all of World's ex-DL airplanes in some time to come.. even the one painted in the old scheme.

Are they still in DL colors, minus the "Delta"? If so will they be repainted in UPS colors or stay in DL.

Is this the bird that was repaired after the fire at ATL?

Actually, 801, 803 and 804 are already owned by UPS. They are leased by UPS to World for a little more than another year. (You're basically correct; I'm being a little hypertechnical, I know.)

The aircraft will undergo major structural modifications, including cutting a cargo door in the side of the aircraft. They will need to be repainted, and they will be repainted to look like all the other MD11s converted to UPS freighters.

At first, I was thinking that the answer would be "No", because when I looked the other day, the aircraft to which you refer (802DE) was still shown as being registered to the trustee for the group that owned it and leased it to DL, and I thought "Well, maybe it was in such bad shape that UPS didn't want it." That has now changed in the last few days, and it is shown as "Registration Pending" at the address of UPS in Kentucky. So UPS did indeed buy it. Right now, it only has an experimental airworthiness certificate, because of the repairs, and it has to demonstrate its airworthiness. I'm guessing that this is indeed 802, and it either has demonstrated its airworthiness or is going to do so at ROW.

Ferrying the 3 ex-Delta MD-11's from Mirabel to Roswell was interesting.
The main reason is that there was a 3 engine airplane, a 2 engine airplane, and a single engine airplane. The removed engines were in the shop, but not being refurbished. So a game of musical engines resulted. With one engine being removed from the first airplane, once it got to Roswell, and shipped back to Mirabel to be placed on the second airplane. Once that airplane got to Roswell, then 2 engines had to be removed from the ones available and sent to Mirabel to get the third airplane out.  Smile

Mr. Roke:

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, can you confirm that the three a/c to which you refer are 806, 811 and 802? Do you know the order in which they were sent to ROS? Also, what work is being carried out at ROS, and who will be doing the freighter mod?

Thanks in advance.

The more the better as Hong Kong see's them about 4 times per day now  Smile

Will all these new aircraft be converted in Singapore like the other MD-11's? Thats how I get to see the new ones so fast as they ferry from Singapore to Hong Kong then operate out.

Mr. Candee,
The airplanes are in Roswell just for storage and to get the proper number of engines on them before they are ferried to SASCO (Singapore - QPG) for the conversion to freighters, known as the P-F modification.
N806DE (FN 511) arrived in ROW on 3/1.
N811DE (FN 543) arrived in ROW on 3/23.
N802DE (FN 481) arrived in ROW on 4/20.
They will be there until late 2007.
Don't know how my post showed up twice, probably a case of fat fingers. ? Yeah sure

ROW is a better and I'm sure, cheaper place to store a plane for that long . Better climate than damp, cool and snowy Montreal.
