With this new service starting soon from Atlanta, does anyone know what equipment will be used?

Cheers

The aircraft will use none other than the lovely Boeing 767-300ER

I'm guessing there has been a demand for this route? I'd say 763. With US and CO in at GLA(CO also in at EDI) I would have thought those airlines have it covered.

so i guess this route is mainly for connecting passengers . the passengers have to be sourced from glasgow too.

The passengers will come from all over Scotland, I'm sure. And if ATL-EDI is anything like CO's EWR-EDI, the majority of passengers will probably be US tourists coming to Scotland.

I think this service will be an excellent addition to Scotland's ever-growing portfolio of direct transatlantic flights.

Will be great during the summer- just not sure a daily duing Winter is necessary.

Winter schedule so far already shows the flight operating 5x weekly (daily except Tuesday and Saturdays from ATL). I did read somewhere that DL is receiving some subsidies from the EDI side - not sure whether those subsidies include a minimum number of weekly flights...I'm sure that the schedule would probably be even further reduced to 4X or even 3X weekly during the deep winter season (late Jan/early Feb) if advance bookings look poor for that period...

The Scotland-USA market does seem to be highly seasonal, with a number of direct services operating summer only, such as AA's GLA-ORD and US Airways' GLA-PHL. However GLA/EDI to EWR with CO seems to do well through the winter months, albeit on reduced frequency.

I think DL might be reducing EDI-ATL to 4 x weekly during the winter months, but I think that would still be an eminently useable frequency. Hopefully US to PHL will go year-round on a 4 or 5 x weekly basis from GLA too.

Think I read elsewhere it was down to 4 weekly during the winter.
As for US GLA-PHL, now that they've started using 757s, perahps we could see that go year round also.

Delta are recieving funding from the Scottish Executive for the route. In order to recieve funding they have to operate year round, and at least 3 flights per week. During the winter they are reducing frequency to 4x weekly, as stated.

That'll teach you

No flights from ABZ to EDI, though BA (Loganair) operate flights from INV to EDI.

Florida is always a big destination for Europeans in the winter and Delta does that in abundance from ATL.

I remember using that service frequently on the ATP, nice flight although a bit bumpy at times - does anyone remember the old NW DC10's that used to fly into GLA?

The winter frequency is currently at 5x weekly as was stated in reply 7, and not 4x weekly, looks like it returns to a daily frequency from the beginning of March.

I think the start date has been pushed back about a month due to a shortage of a/c. If I can find the article, I'll post it.
