Also MAD has been discussed... however I am surprised about Bremen! Currently they only fly to London!

Lately, it seems that both Ryanair and easyJet are creating bases at airports they only fly very limited, instead of 'upgrading' focus cities.

easyJet only had 1 or 2 flights from MXP when they announced the base. DTM was not served at all when the base was announced. For FR, they only served MRS from PIK and DUB when the base was announced.

Anyway, nice to see U2 expanding in Europe.

The title of the tread is a bit misleading. A question mark would have helped, or the information that those are rumors.

Exceptions confirm the rule.

I'm continually amazed that U2 don't open a French base in NCE to operate flights province-province like NCE-SXB, NCE-TLS, NCE-NTE, NCE-LIL as well as flights to Spain, Italy and Eastern Europe. Easyjet are probably the second biggest carrier out of Nice after AF, and AF mainline only operates to Paris. Got to be some scope there somewhere. Also with the open skies between the EU and Morocco, flights NCE-CMN, NCE-RAK would make a mint. You can't get space for love or money on Atlas Blue flights.

I agree

At the moment there is no talk for anymore bases to be created, only expansion from existing bases, i.e MXP, BSL, DTM, notably EDI and GLA

When the MXP base was created they look at a few existing airports that we fly to, one of them being MAD. As for BOH and BRE you can forget it, they wont become bases for a long time, if at all!

We should also add DSA to that list.

Bremen is already served from London-Luton (?) since last year, and at least the number of applied slots did not indicate any larger activities from them in Bremen.

Have my doubts that Bremen will become a base due to the current night curfew ruling and the limited space available. And there is little chance to get any incentives from the airport. Only thing I see at the moment is a second LTN flight.

A second U2 flight to BRE would be very welcome. The late arrival time in BRE makes it near impossible to get where I'd need to be in Germany by public transport.  Sad

Isn't BRE where OLT is based? I wonder if they will protect their turf (even though they only have SF-340's, S-2000;s, BN-2's)  Smile

Delta777Jet, do you have a source for the BRE rumor?

Rumors about BRE being chosen as a new EZY base are around for quite a long time. So far the only result is the once daily LTN flight. So, as much as I would like to see an EZY base here at BRE I believe it when I see it.

Yup, OLT is based there. However, defending territory??? Good one... they have downgraded BRE-LCY to once daily with S20 shortly after Easyjet started ex Luton.

In the past they haven´t exactly been known for building up traffic, rather as those ones to close shop after everybody else had left. However, they are doing very well on the EADS contracts (BRE-TLS, BRE-XFW-BRS), and on soccer charters. Plus some contract flying, now just in the process of starting up Debrecen-Budapest for Malev.

All in all they are currently flying:
BRE-TLS S20 for EADS
BRE-XFW-BRS for EADS
BRE-NUE/BRU/CPH/ZRH with SWM, SF3
BUD-DEB with SF3

Charter
BRE-BRV-GWT SF3/S20
BRE-LEJ-Sarmallek
BRE-NAP, HAM-NAP S20
