TA 320 Incident On The SAL-LAX Route

(Article in Spanish, sorry.)

According to the article, a TA A320 flying SAL-LAX had to go back to SAL due to "problems with the hydraulic system". The a/c, which was already cruising over Mexican airspace when the pilot decided to return, spent two hours flying over Comalapa airport before being cleared to land (burning fuel, I assume?).

Anyone has more info about this incident?

Yea... the other newspaper said that they were burning fuel to reduce the risk of an explosion during landing  banghead 

are there backup hydraulics systems? just asking.

What in the world was this a/c doing over MID (almost straight to the North of SAL, heading 358°) when the route to LAX is heading 315°??

About the two hours to dump fuel; it has to do more with reaching again the Maximum Landing Weight... The a/c was simply too heavy to land without causing damage to the undercarriage.

Journalists should contact knowledgeable people and verify their info before printing all this nonsense!!

Isnt Merida an ATC? How far does it reach. They may mean that they were in contact with Merida Center - not over the city of Merida.
