ALASKA AIRLINES INCREASES SERVICE TO DALLAS/FORT WORTH
Airline Will Add Third Daily DFW-Seattle Flight, Second Daily DFW-Anchorage Flight



SEATTLE—Alaska Airlines today announced it will add a third daily nonstop flight between Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle on June 4. The airline also will add a second daily flight connecting Dallas/Fort Worth and Anchorage, Alaska, with same-plane connecting service through Seattle.

“Dallas/Fort Worth has been a successful addition to our route structure as it’s a market that many of our Pacific Northwest and Alaska travelers already frequent,” said Gregg Saretsky, Alaska’s executive vice president of marketing and planning. “We’re happy to offer these additional flights, which make our schedule very convenient for business travelers.”
Alaska operates the Dallas/Forth Worth route on a Boeing 737 aircraft with leather seats. All flights include complimentary hot snack service and Alaska’s personal digEplayer inflight entertainment system, a handheld video-on-demand device offering customers first-run movies, television programs and other entertainment.
Alaska’s Dallas/Fort Worth flights offer convenient connections to and from cities throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada on Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier, Horizon Air. Flight details are listed below.

That's a good addition. I remember on our departure to LAS from SEA, I walked by the gate area where one of the DFW flights was supposed to depart. The waiting area was packed.

I'm glad to see that DFW is becoming to be a success.

I don't think AA was that thrilled with this route (or SEA-ORD either). I think AA and AS use to codeshare on SEA-DFW, but do not anymore. AS operates three daily flights to both DFW and ORD which are AA hubs.

Many years ago, the had an AA/AS interchange, AS crews flew AA birds, visa versa, to ORD and DFW. I recall seeing AS 727s in ORD in the 80s.

I wondered about Houston based on
a) Oil workers market..
b) AS has already "invaded" AAs DFW and ORD market so why not "invade COs IAH market.

By the by, AS is also a partner with AA. Hence my questions. AA handles all the commuter traffic for AS in LAX.

I never said I didn't like it - I said it was a shadow of what it was 10 years ago, and it gouges Alaskan's wallets . . .   

Plus there's no chance I'm flying on them anytime soon . . . . if I go to DEN or ORD or west coast, it'll be UA; SEA, IAH or DFW, it'll be CO; visit my daughter in Iowa, it'll be UA again . . . until CO gets off their butts and flies to CID.

I do want them to continue to succees of course - they are Alaska Airlines . . . my Hometown airline.

There was something rather special seeing that AS 727 in ORD many years ago as I was taxiing by on an LH742 just arriving from FRA after 18 months in Germany. It said "home".

I was just giving you a hard time. It's all a matter of opinion. I still support AS as a customer, but they are the most convenient airline for me. When I was living in KS, I was flying AA all the time.

I believe, but am not 100 percent positive, that AS launched ANC/ORD
at AA's request. It had something to do with AA's aircraft availability at
that point. By having 1 daily flight operated by AS, with AS' own aircraft,
AA was able to free up a plane to do something else, while still generating
some revenue through codeshare.

MD90fan: Yes and no. Its not to bad for an MD. We have had many route longer then that with the Mad Dog. SFO-ZIH,FAI-SEA. American has quite a few pretty long runs as well. But Alaska had to find some places to fly the MD with them being pulled from Mexico. I'd prefer they keep them on the DFW run, where better for a mechanical. You know AA has the parts!

Cactus739: Wish I could give you a count, but I don't have it. I'm off today and don't have ways to look it up from home. I can tell you from what I see they are getting close to being done. ASFlyer may have a better idea!

I can't remember the last time I saw the cloth interior, but I've been primarily flying on the 737 NG's so my perception is a little skewed. I think all of the 700/800/900's have leather now. I was kind of curious, but I don't imagine anyone here might know. We were going to be retrofitting the MD's with leather as well but that was a decision made before they decided to expedite their departure from our system completely. I wonder if they'll still bother with leather seating on the MD's now that they are going to be completely gone in 3 years time.

I think it could be a winner, IMO. Just like the ANC-ORD flight, the connecting opportunities on AA would probably fill it up alone.

Well, they did invade CO's EWR market! AS I think could do pretty well with a once or twice daily SEA-IAH flight, with continuing service to/from ANC, similar to thier current DFW set-up. The connecting opportunities on CO, the oil and frequent flier market between Anchorage and Houston, and the sheer overall size of the Houston metro area could be good drawing points.

Plus, I go down there all the time...it'd be nice to take Chester.

I would certainly hope to see AS at IAH one day.

That all did, indeed, happen, although I don't think it was in the 1990s. AA and Alaska used to operate an interchange with a Boeing 727 that flew IAH-DFW-SEA-ANC-FAI with a single plane and a change of crews at SEA. However, I think the partnership lasted only into the mid- to late-1980s. I could definitely be wrong, though.

No....It ran into at least the early 90's. When I was a sophmore in high school (early 92) we took a trip to Nashville....took the "interchange" flight they called it from FAI-ANC-SEA-ORD. Later that summer on a different trip I took the return flight ORD-SEA-ANC-FAI.... made for a very long trip with all those stops...

AS flew MD's on the LAX-YYZ route during its brief service life. Also, all of those ANC-Russian Far East were MD's after AS got rid of the 72S.

Not a shocker...

The telecom sector in DFW is still booming, add that into the fact that SEA has quite a few nice software companies, you'll see a whole lot of traffic between the two cities. Yeah, AS isn't seeing a lot of DFW originating traffic probably, this is mostly SEA originating traffic. I wouldn't be shocked if AS threw a flight to PDX in the near future. AA cannot be thrilled with what's going on here.

I remember flying AS from DFW to SEA in the early 90s. It was after a flight from SJU. It was the first time I flew an Alaska plane and was really confused since we were supposed to be on AA. The plane parked at the D Concourse too. After that I (along with my family members that live in Seattle) flew AS many times. It seemed to be an odd way to fly another carrier's plane, but I guess it worked for me at least.

AS chose to invade CO's territory at EWR when they chose it over JFK, but that is probably so that they could have good connectivity, especially to Europe.
