Just found this interesting piece of news on the Airliners Gallery blogspot.

"Virgin Atlantic Airways (London) will tweak their livery this summer with a slightly revised alteration. No other details are known at this time"

Any ideas as to what changes to expect,i personally think that the tails will probably be painted the same as Birthday Girl for a start.

I think that VS should stick with one livery! Having a special celebratory scheme every now and then is fine, but it seems like they are always changing their colors.

Hardly, the last time they changed, If I remember correctly was around 2001/2002 when they got the silver livery.

VS are always 'tweaking' their livery. First there are no titles on the upper rear fuselage, then there are and then they are removed. Then there are no titles on the engines, then there are. Then the words 'Air-born' followed by the date the aircraft first flew are added to the nose.

This all depends on VS's current advertising campaign - 'Fly a Younger Fleet', 'We're better by four' etc. So my guess is that if the livery is 'tweaked' (note that the quote says 'tweaked', not 'changed') this means we will get a new campaign with a new slogan that will be supported by some small mod to the aircrafts' paint jobs possibly using decals that will effectively limit their life until the next campaign.

VS livery is one of the best they shouldnt touch it, and I hope they dont go for the virgin america tail style either.

Sorry. As it says in my profile I am a retired business manager. My only association with any airline has been as a passenger. My comments were based simply on keeping my eyes open!

My guess is that it will be a football related livery, that will also highlight their forthcoming, but so far not confirmed, service to Brasil.
Maybe a Brasilian beauty, with green and yellow bikini with a with a football on a beach?

I hope it's not a special livery and they make a permanent change- like making the bday livery permanent perhaps with a few adjustments. The VS livery is really stunning and recognizeable IMHO and little serious change should be made to the brand.

Cheers

It might possibly be the tail logo that is changing. The one on G-VFAB is the new style Virgin Group Coporate logo in the slightly revised typeset.

It's not a huge change, just slightly different.

Open them in large, and look very closely at the way the letters are written.

The current style, is as it came out on that famous original napkin, where the pen had weaped in the paper.

The new style is much smoother and neater and the shape of the letters has changed slightly.

It was mid-1999. I distinctly remember seeing G-VFAB landing at LHR on 19 June 1999. I was flying out to JFK that day.

I've never actually noticed that before but the 'Virgin' on the A340-600 is 'squiggly'  Smile whereas the 'Virgin' on the G-VFAB 744 is like, a lot neater. Cool is it what things you can pick up this way.  Smile Smile

I like it. IMO, this is one of the better attempts to make the tail look like a piece of fabric waving in the breeze. The photo above also shows how this design complements the representation of the Union Jack on the winglet.  bigthumbsup

Not me, but because of the font used on that tail. They should stick to the classic Virgin font for the tail logo.

My favourite airline is Virgin, but having flown it the last time in 1999, maybe I can't say it's my favourite anymore? Maybe they were better back then? I don't know!
