Apparently, this is a 767-400ER in SJU. Normally only 737-800s (from CVG) 757s (from ATL and JFK) and domestic 767-300s (from ATL) land there. Could it have been an equipment substitution for a 767-300 on the ATL-SJU route? If so, how often do these substitutions occur?

I could be wrong, and I don't know whether this was the case when that particular photo was taken, but I believe DL has scheduled 764s on ATL-SJU in the past during peak season.

The photo was taken last March, and I do believe that the peak season is in the summner.

March is also sort of peak due to spring break and school holidays...

Spring break can vary where you are. When I used to live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Spring Break was always on the week of Easter.

I went through the June schedules, and could not find a 767-400.

It was an equipment substitution. The date is wrong though. On 03/25 this aircraft operated as DL318 SJU-ATL.

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

When I was in Puerto Rico in the middle of March one of the daily ATL flights was a 767-400 instead of the regular 767-300.

Summer may be busy too, but December through March is definitely a peak season for the Caribbean.

December-March is also peak time for Hawaii. May through October usually brings the numbers to the Europe flights. Will DL shift their 764s from Hawaii to Europe for the summer and put the 763ERs on the Hawaii routes?

The schedules still show 767-400s. You should know that only five 767-400ERs are being converted to international ops.

It has not been decided yet, the conversions will be done over the winter. For the time being, the 767-400ERs on international routes are being sold as all coach.

DL currenly flies ATL-OGG with an internationally-configured 767-300ER.

Actually 8 aircraft are being converted for international service, not 5.

Nope, it's 5. Origionally, either it was going to be eight or there was some confusion on the number; but after it is all said and done, five 767-400ER's will be converted to international configurations. Read here in the article from Delta:

Indeed, but only because a 764 couldn't make it nonstop OGG-ATL out of the relatively short runway at OGG.
