OK, as discussed in a previous thread, I'm flying DL for the first time that I can remember this summer. I have a few questions on service, comfort, etc. for these flights

DL 1181 LAX-SLC - 757-2 class. Any type of service? What about comfort?
DL 1166 SLC-CLE - MD-90. Any meal service? I'm in an exit row seat, so what about comfort?
DL 459 CLE-ATL - MD-88. How comfortable are these planes? Again in an exit row, hows the comfort?
DL 187 ATL-LAX - 763. Is it true that there are only projectors in this aircraft? What about meal service? I'll have connected fromthe CLE-ATL flight, so I'll be hungry at this point.

Again, this is my first time on DL, but not on SkyTeam planes (Frequentl CO flyer, but use DL's FF program to collect CO miles).

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you're in coach, meal service isn't the greatest. A snack pack thing for long haul, crackers and a drink for shorter (CLE-ATL). The MD-88 and MD-90 are very comfortable, especially in an exit row. As for the 763, yes there's only projectors and hang-down TVs in coach. No PTVs but I like it all the same. If you're connecting from SLC-CLE and CLE-ATL I'd suggest grabbing food. Turn right out of the gate and you have Max and Ermas, turn left and you have BK, etc. We only have 3 gates at CLE so you don't have far to go. Have a good flight and we'll see you in Cleveland!

DL's seat comfort in Y is comparable to other US carriers. N766UA pretty much covered everything. But have a good trip. You picked the right airline.

DL1181, a 757, is only a 589 mile flight. You'll get a drink, and your choice of snack from DL's snack tray : Biscoff cookies, Peanuts, Granola Bar, or the Lance cheese/crackers. 757 comfort is average for US coach, unless you get an exit row or row 19. Row 19 is ideal : its the first row behind door 2R, and as such you have about 12 feet of legroom between yourself and the bulkhead behind the First Class section. DL's 757s have only the CRT screens in the center of the aisle, down the length of the plane. With the shortness of this flight, you'll only get TV shows to watch.

If you are REALLY lucky, you'll get an equipment substitution on this flight and get to fly on a Song 757, which has in-seat IFE !

DL 1166, on the MD90, is a 3:40 flight (some 1559 miles). You will not get a meal unless you are in First Class (and the flight bridges a mealtime). In coach, you will likely get a couple of drink services + a snack "Brick", which is actually pretty good - crackers, spreadable cheese, trail mix packet, biscoff, etc. DL's MD90 have dropdown LCD screens throughout the plane, and you'll get a movie + various TV shows to watch.

DL 459, on the MD88, is a mere 2 hours, about 554 miles. You'll get a drink, and the selection from the snack tray. MD88 has no TV.

Seat comfort on both the MD90 and MD88 will be fairly identical, especially in the exit row, as you get extra legroom. Try and get on the 2-seat side of the airplane (seats D and E), also.

DL 187, on the 763, First Class will likely get a meal, and Coach will get a snack "Brick" + a couple of drink services. TV on the 763 is the large projector screens (no center aisle CRTs, or dropdown LCDs).

Hope this helps ! (if you're flying DL, and have a Skymiles account versus another skyteam airline, try and upgrade to First, if you have medallion status - even if you don't get food, the larger seat is well worth it)

Enjoy your trip on DL - with this airline trying to re-invent itself, the staff has a great renewed vigor in their airline, and you should get a real nice dose of the Southern hospitality that's made Delta famous for years.

(and I'm just waiting for the anti-DL folks to start chiming in with their attacks)

Unfortunately, I don't have Medallion status, and, while I have 15,000 miles in my account, apparently my fares are non-upgradeable, both ahead and at the airport with my miles  Sad. Perhaps you can shed some more light on the ability/liklihood of upgrading when I'm at the airport, if there is a chance that I can pay to upgrade. When I flew TZ SFO-MDW-SFO (TZ), I could upgrade to "business" for $40.00 each way.

Thanks in advance.

Upgrading at the airport depends on your fare bucket. If it's L/U/T, then it's a no-go. If it's Y/B/M/H/Q/K, then you have some options. Y/B/M can be upgraded using miles; Y/B/M/H/Q/K are allowed to standby for an airport upgrade with the cost varying by segment length. LAX-SLC and CLE-ATL are both between 500-1000 miles, so the cost is $75. SLC-CLE and ATL-LAX are both between 1500-2000 miles, so the cost is (I believe) $150, although I might be wrong (I don't really pay attention to it, since if this is happening, it means my upgrade is most likely going through). It's really not worth the cost to upgrade...the longer flights will get you a little more width, and some food. You mention that you'll be hungry going to ATL-LAX; this flight will most leave from T or A, with the CLE flight most likely arriving in A or B. Either way, there are large food courts in the middle of both A and B, so you could easily swing by and grab a bite. I've managed to swing by the food court on a 30 minute connection and still make it on time. For the 763 though, I recommend getting 27A/G (if it's a domestic config) - row 26 doesn't have a window seat, so you've got about 6 feet of legroom to spread out and be comfortable.

I've never been on the MD-90, but I've been on an MD-88 in an exit row & there's plenty of legroom. I would guess that they'd be configured similarly.

Also, if you end up in the exit row on the 763 at the bulkhead, be aware that some of the 763s don't have a video screen on the bulkhead, so you'll be out of luck in terms of seeing the IFE if you get one of those.
