In the latest edition of Airliners World it says that Easyjet has registered a company in Malta with the intention of starting flights from the island. Does anybody have any more information on what's going on in Malta right now?

The latest news I had was that the government was offering incentives to airlines guaranteeing a certain amount of pax during the off-peak months on Malta to GVA, BSL, Girona, Porto, and other routes.

Actually there was an interview with the CEO of Air Malta in the Times of Malta of May 23rd (not sure about the date). Kind of made sense. He said that KM had no problem with competition, even if it came from strong competitors like FR or EZY. However his point was that in the name of fair competition every airline should be charged the same taxes, instead of giving preferential treatment to some airlines and not to others.
I dunno, I'm not the expert but he does have a point. Particularly seeing as KM, operating 12 aircraft out of MLA, must surely bring the greatest volume of passengers to the airport. So if any airline operating to MLA deserved to pay less in taxes, it would appear to me to be KM.
