I came across something (a day late naturally) this morning. NW hosted an open house yesterday at IND. They are hiring Equipment Service Employees and Customer Service Agents. Did anyone here attend it yesterday or even work it? How many openings do they have or expect to have?

Here is the listing from careerbuilder.com

Do you think they will be adding flights here? Or are they just hiring to fill open positions???

I think they are expanding...the lady i spoke to a few weeks ago indicated that some expansion is forthcoming but could not elaborate. I think there will be additions to current cities and maybe one or two new cities...perhaps MDW *lol*

Why on Earth would NW run IND-CHI? O&D is low, competition is high, and neither ORD nor MDW is an especially large station.

Isn't that hiring for the new GroundCo outsourcing company?

Could NW be positioning themselves to replace all IAM personnel in case of a strike for and turn down of this Tentative Agreement?

According to a San Diego agent that stations manager has already told them he will be hiring vendor employess to work with current agents so they can be trained to replace them. SAN, unlike IND, would be losing those agents no matter what. For the first time, newspapers are quoting NW as saying they will let 2890 IAM agent go if contract voted down.

Hmmmm. Yeah I'm quite sure this thread has been officially hijacked.

So at this point I come up with 3 options....

1) They are preparing just in case the ground workers walk.
2) They are filling holes in the schedule.
3) They are expanding.

well.. 4...

4) They are starting intergalactic service.  Big grin

3) They are expanding.

As I posted in another thread... effective immediately NW pilot furloughs will stop, instead, they will begin to re-call pilots toward the end of this year, early next year. The remaining 747-400's in the desert will return to service. NW has also recognized a need for 757 flying, several 757's are going to be brought back into service. Flying will expand more then originally planned. Jan. 8 is the last DC-10 flight, the A330 will take over all DC-10 routes. Also, rumor has it that the 757's will get winglets and possible 757 service to Europe.

How many 744s and 752s are currently stored? (I assume that there aren't any 753s in storage.)

3 744's and quite a few 757's are stored, on source says 5, but im sure that more then 5 752's are stored.

No 753's are stored as they are wholly owned by NW and not leased.

NW is doing hiring for Ground Services here at SEA as well, I would love to take the job but it starts at like 9.48 an hour or somethnig. I am surprised NW isn't following in AS's footsteps and outsourcing to Menzies etc.

Cheers thanks a lot.
