The KLM 798 (GRU-AMS) has landed in GIG just 30 minutes ago (20:45 Local Time) due to a medical emergency, just 1h after departed from GRU.

Unfortunately a pax died aboard before medical assistance get into the plane. First info is that this pax scape from a Hospital in São Paulo and boarded normally at C Class. Hope this pax rest in peace.

The 777 is now on finger 11 at GIG Terminal 1 and i'm waiting for further information.

The flight is now expected to stay at GIG overnight, and leave at 15.00 tomorrow. Expected arrival at AMS is 07.30 the next day. The further delay has likely to do with crew duty issues.

Registration PH-BQM "Machu Picchu"

Pax was identified as an Ucranian citizen , 55 yo. First aid was made by a doctor on board, but he died before the landing at GIG, at the corridor.

Very sad  Sad

The flight has now been further delayed until 16.55 local time with an estimated AMS arrival of 09.35, or almost a full day late. Presumably, the crew ran out of legal duty and has to be given minimum rest.

Bad day for KLM operations. The late return of this flight will cause irregularities in the network (KL427 to DXB delayed by 4 hours). Meanwhile, and MD11 is stuck with mechanical problems in UIO and will arrive back about 30 hours late. KLM's tight scheduling and high utilization doesn't allow for a lot of irregularities to happen before the effect is felt throughout the network.

Well yes it sometimes happens, but sofar only DXB has been delayed. PH-BQM will go to KIX as scheduled and PH-KCA to AUA when they get back tomorrow.
All other flights are operating as scheduled and KL1667/BCN is even operated by a B767 (PH-BZM) today due to exceptionally high loads.

The arrival of a new B737 (PH-BXU) has made a difference and KL tries to keep a spare widebody at hand, a B747 today.

I've taken a close look at KLM's widebody operations in the past couple of days and the B772 schedule requires 12 airframes where there are actually 13 available, whereas the MD11 schedule requires only 9 out of 10 available aircraft. The B747 flights can even be operated with 20 frames instead of the 22 available.

Of course, maintenance should be pencilled in (MD11s are scheduled to undergro a cabin retrofit starting soon), but as far as I can see, the widebody operations should be a bit more stable than they used to be. Yesterday, KLM was also an MD11 short but the situation was kept under control other than the 3.5h delay of the YVR flight (reduced to just 1 hour on the return today) and the aircraft change to B772 from MD11 for the CAI flight. Also the late arrival of one B74E from PVG hardle caused a ripple.

I plan to post some of the info I collected one of these days, time permitting, but, as said, it looks like the KLM widebody operations should be more stable this summer than they used to be.

Why has this 737NG the customer code of CIT Leasing corp. instead of the HV customer code like all other 737NG of KL?

Yesterday, KLM was also an MD11

MD-11 schedules area bit tight today also. KL873/HYD is now delayed by 45 min. because flight will be operated by PH-KCB, who just arrived as KL606/SFO.

He ESCAPED from hospital!?
Did he run away from a medical ward, or was he a Psychiatric Patient?
Just wondering... we have several patients run away from our hospital, but they don't usually try to flee the country!!!

We did have one who managed to get on a flight south and was apprehended at Wellington International Airport, trying to get to London... I was SO tempted to tell her that London flights leave from Auckland...!!!

The main problem is of course that KL754 hasn't returned from GYE-UIO-BON this morning. Also KL682 is coming in a bit late from YVR and will operate back to YVR, also a bit late.

HB-IWC, here's another operation irregularity you might have missed.
Again MD-11 related. (These birds run into lot's of mechanical problems,
I don't understand why KLM wants to hold on to them so much longer)

I worked on the flight to YUL (KL671) on sunday. It was operated by a 332
because of a M11 technical failure (maybe you know the cause HB-IWC).
We were then supposed to deadhead on AC YUL-IAD on monday and and fly
IAD-AMS on wednesday. But because of the IAD crew who were supposed
to deadhead to YUL on monday where not allowed on the AC flight and thus
didn't make it to YUL, KL672 was delayed for about 12hours to allow us
minimum rest and operate the flight back to AMS . We departed on tuesday
morning 0800 YUL time and landed in AMS 2030 AMS time.
KLM had to put about 140 PAX in hotels in YUL (the ones who weren't rerouted
with AF) and again had to put them in hotels in AMS because they all missed
their connections! Must have costed quite a lot!

To the passenger we lost on KL 798... RIP .

Suprisingly, the other week i checked in the Astraeus flight to Rhodes, the plane boarded as normal, taxied to the active (14) but turned around and came back onto stand, a passenger was having a heart attack, ambulance came but sadly he died on the ramp on stand 14 or 15 at leeds.

Medical emergencies seem to be quite common with TCX too, our plane that came in to fly us to Dalaman (G-JMCF) had one inbound from SSH, then our aircraft from Dalaman had one also coming back....coincidence?

Don't know the specific circumstances in which this happened, or how this could've happened but the plane was full and our crew wasn't allowed on it.
Very strange because I saw the tickets that were prepared for the six of us
and they costed over 1100CAD a piece!!!

Seems that he made an electrocardiogram (Federal Police says he's still with the electrods in his body) in a Sao Paulo hospital and was forbidden to travel
and also advised he need to stay in the hospital during some days in observation.

So probably AF will take care of this flight, and departure will be very close to the AF443 GIG-CDG.

The KL frame is there so why not take on their own pax? The ones who were bound to go to CDG anyway could switch but for the others new reservations out of AMS surely have been made by now.

I'm sorry, probably i'm not so clear. KLM does not keep operations at GIG, so AF staff will take care of check-in, lounge and boarding of KLM plane.

A new info, the KL a/c will departure at 18:00 as per Airport Authorities.

My brother-in-law was on this flight, and in his opinion matters were handled pretty badly by KL. Once the aircraft had landed pax were kept on board for hours without any food or drink being served, except finally for some chocolates at 11 p.m. or so. The next day very little information was forthcoming on what was going to happen, how and when pax would be tflown to their destinations, etc. When he finally did get home, all his luggage had gone missing!
