In a recent poll taken on a major airliners website ranking the top airlines of the US, Delta received nearly one quarter of all votes though there were ten airlines listed. United and American (in that order) also scored high on the poll. Continental received only about one tenth of the votes and all others received less than ten percent.
So... why's everyone in love with Delta? By the way - they're my favorite airline too. It can't just be the L-1011s (wouldn't an L-1011 look AWESOME in United's livery?)

Whenever I fly Delta froum HOU (Houston Hobby) or IAH to CVG, the prices are always inflated, even though these flights are operated by Comair!

This is the first year I bought Delta tickets for my vacations. When I fly, I look for the cheapest tickets out of ATL, and normally other airlines will have these deals. This year I flew to BOS for $60 RT and to LGW for $248 RT on Delta. These are really amazing deals.

That seems wierd, but I guess its true because. My parents are the only people I know that had a good time flying delta (they only werent to happy about the tight connection at ATL, they almost didnt make it). Me, my stepbrother, my aunt and uncle, my grandmother and my sister all had bad experiences with delta, this was all within the last 2 years. Such things as rude agents, rude f/a, lost baggage. Their fares to NW hubs are so cheap though, thats one thing that I rank high with them though. There is one thing I would like to point out though. I dont think airline surveys are really valid unless they survey freq. travellers, bus. travellers and people like us. The reason being, is some people that get surveyed may see, US Airways and say what airline is that. And maybe the majority of people that responded to this survey had only flown delta in their lifetime. I dont know Im just thinking to much. But I would like to know where did you find this survey? Also surveys I would say arent a very good source of info, because J.D. Power and Associates rated CO #1 for short and long haul. Conde Nast rated CO #1, some other place rated CO BizFirst #1 across the Atlantic and Pacific. Who should we believe anymore? I dont really look at surveys as something to brag about anymore beacause there are so many places that give awards so practically every airline gets some award for something. This is all my view on this topic.

But those pic.s of the old one look great anyway (I loved United's old livrey). Of Delta I know very little, I haven't flown them any time recently. I can say, however, that my four Northwest flights were all made very pleasent by the flight attendants and crew who did a lot to help out when things didn't go the way they were supposed to (even if their airplanes aren't that great). So here's another one: Wouldn't an L-1011 look stunning in Northwest's livery? Or how 'bout a 777 (-300!)?

I for one don't see why everyone thinks Delta is so great. I've never found it to be a particularly remarkable airline, and it pales by comparision with most European carriers I've flown. Plus for the most part, I have always found Delta's fares to be higher than other carriers for domestic trips I have taken. Delta and American have usually had the highest fares, while America West, Midwest Express, Continental and Northwest were all quite lower.
For the most part, I fly whatever airline is cheapest to my destination, unless for example, the fare for Midwest Express is $10-$30 higher, then I fly with them. I usually make my reservations through a travel agent, so I am wondering, are the cheapest fares by Delta to be found on the internet? Otherwise, they never seem to offer a cheap fare out of MKE.

I'll Have to agree with those that said Delta is great. I have had great experience with them in the past Their fares are comparable to everyone else, sometimes SWA is $10 cheaper, but it is worth it to me to have an assigned seat and TV/Music entertainment on a flight and usually bigger airplane 757/767. United and others are usually $6-$12 more per ticket because you have to pay an airport tax at the connecting airport, but living in SLC, you can fly to almost anywhere (that is worth going to) non stop on delta. Even on my last flight, which was two hours late (I know, I know) THey called my mobile and let me know it was late and what time to come to the airport, they also called my family and let them know that I would be late and not to worry. I have never had another airline do that. Now, I know that a two hour delay is hard to swallow, but everyone has delays. Delta just does their best to make you happy, despite the circumstances, and that is why they are number one!

I " fell in love " with Delta a couple of years back.......
I used to live in FRA and twice a year I flew to the US on DL of course......
Now that I live in the US, DL is my favourite airline......I have travelled about 40000 miles in the last 12 months and the majority was on DL.
Recently I found a new preference ( SQ ) but this just for international travel......

Delta's airplanes are rumored to be very nice. I know I will look forward to flying the 767-400s when they are in numbers out there and that today I look forward to the L-1011 flights. Rumor has it that they also have VERY nice MD-11s. Does anyone know yet when the last L-1011 flight will be?
