Wow, great news.
Congratulations ! Looks like the FAA was about to make the same mistake with Ecuador in just forgetting to upgrade them - as they did with Venezuela.
Now I hope to finally see AeroGal flying to the US with their own equipment.

Hi, in today's newspaper "El Comercio" from Quito, Ecuador -on the frontpage there is a big note on the approval from the FAA granting Ecuador CAT 1 once again... and the 3 big airlines have filed to fly to the US, including TAME, Aeroga & Icaro...
the link is in spanish at www.elcomercio.com

Congratulations to Ecuador!.
I was just reading the El Comercio article and found this:
"...Aparte cuentan con un 727-200. Estas aeronaves cubrirán la rutas regionales, especialmente a Bogotá y Medellín, desde el próximo mes."
("Besides they count with a 727-200. Those Airplanes will cover regional routes, specially to Bogota and Medellin, starting next month".)
I also found something at El Mundo newspaper from Medellin:
"Vuelo directo a Quito
("Direct flight to Quito
The Agency of International Cooperation of Medellin announced que starting June 23 the Ecuadoran Airline Aerogal will stablish a direct flight between Quito and Medellin. The AIC didn't indicate the frequencies nor didn't it confirm lots of data of the Airline, which is not very known in Colombia. Aerogal representatives are in Medellin finishing the details for the first flight".)
Can anybody tell me more details about the MDE planned operations?
Damn... I'm glad to see my Airport expanding at last!.

I can't wait!!!!!!. It will be my 3rd visit to Ecuador but I still feel very excited about going there. I hope Mt. Tungurahua won't ruin my plans to visit the wonderful village of "Baños".

Great news for Ecuadorians and aircraft enthusiasts! I hope to see a return of Ecuatoriana de Aviacion and perhaps see other airlines like Icaro or TAME at US airports in the near future.

Aerogal is the airline who is starting RIGHT ON with the itnernational routes. They were granted 3 routes. LIMA, MEDELLIN, and BOGOTA, starting june 6th. Aerogal recieved its newest 732 yesterday HC-CFM and an other one is being painted in SELT (latacunga) due to arrive this month. An other one about to come along with the 767.
VIP ECUADOR will use the 767 and 757 for the US routes, and TMAE will stay with its current ailiners trying to reach international routes again such as BOGOTA.
Icaro, plans to enter service to MAO soon this year with the 732 and also, LIM and BOG,, and Panama as well.
With this on our hands, we could say the competition has begun. TAME, AEROGAL, and ICARO, all for simialr routes. The one I see most competition with is the BOGOTA route.

from the article:
Las perspectivas de las aerolíneas para llegar a Estados Unidos, después de 12 años de suspensión, son casi inmediatas. Tame, por ejemplo, plantea hacerlo en 30 días.
It says after "12 years of suspension"... Is it talking about the last time airlines from Ecuador flew to the USA? I remember Saeta was flying to Miami until September 1999.
It also says that TAME sees the possibility to start service within 30 days, using their A320s.

Somebody forgot to tell TAME they need at least 5-6 months to realisticly get approval from DOT to fly here. 2006/07 may be a good year for Spanish airlines at MIA, especially with Venezuela and Ecuador returning to Cat. I. Conviasa, Aserca, TAME, Aerogal, Air Madrid, and Aerosur are all planning MIA service. Let's see which ones actually happen though...
