I'm sitting in Denver as I have been for the past 5 hours. Interestingly enough United has three flights to Seattle and all of them are delayed and are departing out of three consecutive gates (B37, B38 and B39). To start out with United 509's (the 7:40pm departure to SEA) original plane got cancelled in Kansas City. So they then route a plane that was coming off a flight from San Diego to Seattle and delay the flight until 8:50pm. Well things get worse as the crew for the flight were coming in on United 88 from San Francisco, but had to divert to Colorado Springs because Denver went into a groundstop due to lightening and storms. Then the plane is ready to leave and fly to Denver, but then diverts a second time to Cheyenne Wyoming. So there is a plane, but no crew. The other two Seattle flights are facing similar problems.
What other messes are happening tonight? It is not a good day for United.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Hmm interesting that you are waiting on United 509. I just gave up and went to flight 1229, which is supposed to leave at 10:40pm and arrive at 12:05am. It is a little more certain of a departure time I believe. It is interesting that two Anetters are both stuck in Denver on the same flight. I gave up on 509. I was hanging out at gate B37 for a while, but moved over with hopes of making it possibly sooner.

Just got into ORD from LGA on UA685. It was scheduled to depart at 3:00pm but then rescheduled for 4:20 because of 'crew'. We pushed back, made our way to the runway just when a groundstop was announced at ORD because of thunderstorms. We had to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours. Finally arrived at about 8:10. ORD was a total madhouse. People everywhere and every flight on the departure screen was delayed. The line for customer service was several hundred feet long. I consider myself lucky only being delayed for 3.5 hours. I feel sorry for the people in those lines and the UA employees who were being screemed at.

Yeah, I got on the waitlist for 1229 but was flying on a free Mileage Plus ticket so I doubt I was too high on the priority list. Plus with my wandering between 3 gates, I might have missed my name being called.
I will say that any person flying DEN-SEA last night was in for pure chaos.
Eventually 509 took off around 11:30PM Denver Time, arriving in SEA around 1:00am. Gotta love those 3 1/2 hour delays. The only positive about this flight was that the Seattle-based flight crew was awesome. Otherwise a total drag.
This was the perfect end to a trip from hell (actually the trip was great, all the flights were hell). I'm going to try and do a trip report.

Ironically, I was on a mileage plus reward ticket too. They actually called all the standby passengers and 1229 went out with empty seats. I actually got 10A, which was the second row of economy plus on the 757, which is better than a 737.

I was looking out the window and noticed that 509 pushed back about 2 minutes after 1229. The two flights basically flew together to SEA, but 1229 beat 509 by a few minutes. Arriving at 1am is no fun at all.

I will too as I started working on one. I have never seen such a mess at DEN in the evening. All three flights to Seattle were delayed. The pilots for 509 got stuck in Cheyenne, and the plane that operated 1229 also got stuck in Cheyenne when it diverted during the ground stop. I ended up spending 8 hours in Denver, so I wasn't too pleased with that.

ROSE,
COS had 16 ua/uax diversions and CYS had about a dozen on the UA side...i was on a cos-den flight that ended up going back to cos...wanted to kiss the ground on arrival as the dash8 was thrown around like a rag doll trying to get to denver. did notice on arrival in cos that wn,f9 and yx were all sitting there at the jet center. denver has been spared to a great degree this year when it comes to diversions. what happened last night in den has not happened in a long time thank god!!!
