Why are there no flights from LAX-ANC nonstop? We would like to add ANC to our end of year round the world (one world) itinerary, but the fact that AA only code share with AS means we can't go to Alaska. If any a-netters can shed any light on this matter i would be grateful.

wait a second, don't understand your comment "that AA only code share with AS" because AS does have a nightly nonstop LAX-ANC on a 737-700

My apologies, I guess what I am really looking for is a non-stop on AA not code shared with AS. I don't understand why they all (except the one quoted by you) basically all stop in Seattle. Surely the demand is there for many more non-stops.

I guess it's not that great, or they would have more than 1 non-stop!

Think its more a seasonal market than anything else. WA did it and it was only during Summer season, as did UA (from SFO). Wonder if the Alaskan cruises have anything to do w/it being so seasonal?

It's not exactly Barrow either...there are many days during the winter when it is colder in North Dakota and Minnesota than it is in ANC.

But seriously, it IS a seasonal market...and with the ummm, 3,647*
connections a day via SEA and ANC-LAX shuttle isn't needed.

*maybe less

LAX-ANC used to be a DL route, a leftover route from Western AL. I once flew TUS-LAX-ANC on DL, perhaps 7 or 8 years ago. How times have changed!

LAX-ANC was an old WA route picked up by DL, but is now routed through SLC. SLC-ANC is year around service on a 752 I believe.

I sympathise with Qantas 787 as I have also been in the same situation. Oneworld Explorer fares do not allow the use of code-share flights unless the operating carrier is also a oneworld airline. Those travellers like Qantas 787 and I who use the fare during the Australian summer can not travel to Alaska because it is a seasonal AA destination. Very annoying ...

Doesn't the DFW-ANC non-stop operate year-round? The Explorer ticket would allow you to connect to that, unless it would put you over the 20-segment maximum for the ticket, that is.

Cool, so anytime I feel like going LAX/ANC, I will just sneek onto a freighter at LAX and pack my self in a box and call it a day!  Wink

Should the title of this be something like "Why no AA LAX-ANC?"

Qantas787: We start a 2nd daily non-stop June 4th"

AS 183 LAX-ANC 0750/DEP-1202/ARR
109 2030/DEP-0049/ARR

AS 106 ANC-LAX 0040/DEP-0649/ARR
250 1650/DEP-2300/ARR (Continues to MEX)

Is a seasonal AA route. There isn't one - with anyone - in the winter.

There is in fact . . . . ANC-LAX on AS.

Boy oh boy did you miss this boat . . .

OK, let me break it out for ya . . . .

In reply 10 . . . AirWillie's post contends that LAX is Heaven and ANC is hell. OK, with me so far. "Why are there no flights from Heaven to Hell non-stop?" Get it. Heaven=LAX and Hell=ANC.

My reply in 18 tossed it back to him . . . . only my contention is that ANC=Heaven and LAX=Hell. 'kay, ya still with me there SoCalATC? Now, that wasn't so hard was it . . .  wink

As for your question:

Quoting SOCALATC (Reply 20):

You're absolutely right. AS is superior in every respect, IMO, to other carriers making the SoCal-ANC runs . . . except perhaps UA. Can't compare them to WN though . . . never flown WN that I can recall. I don't do airliens without an F cabin.

Actually I think the joke was an ongoing airline joke about Atlanta.

Even travelling to heaven or hell you have to transfer through ATL!

I heard the joke from my uncle who's an AA pilot.
