Quoting Medinaj (Thread starter): Now that Venezuela has been reinstated as CAT1, are Aeropostal and Santa Barbara expanding service to the US?
Yes, apparently they are... we'll just have to wait and see.
Quoting Medinaj (Thread starter):
I read on the Aeropostal website that they are getting new MD80s and starting a CCS-Aruba-Atlanta service, I believe, as well as a PMV-MIA. How many MDs do they have by now?
Somewhere around 10.
Quoting Medinaj (Thread starter): As a side note, I also just found out that Falcon went bankrupt. How is Aeropostal serving MIA? Are they leasing other US-registered aircraft? from whom?
Falcon kept only 2 MDs which are the ones currently wetleased to VH. That contract will soon be over when the FAA grants VH permission to fly their own metal to the US, which should be sometime between now and July.
Quoting Medinaj (Thread starter): Also, with Venezuela becoming member of Mercosur, is there a chance for Embraer aircraft to come into the Venezuelan domestic market?
Not a chance... according to the Venezuela-MERCOSUR accession treaty recently drafted in Buenos Aires gives Venezuela two deadlines to lift all their trade barriers with Argentina and Brazil. The first one in 2012 and the second one in 2014.
So no tax-breaks at least until 2014. The only way I can see E-jets here is if Conviasa buys them, since they it's state-owned, no problem about taxes.
Saludos desde Caracas,
