Etihad Airways A340-500 Destinations

Browsing the schedules, I can see that Etihad Airways will be using its new A340-500s starting in July to London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Frankfurt and starting in August to Beirut and Jeddah.

These 5 destinations are the only ones I have been able to spot that will be served by the A340-500.

I'm a bit surprised, as none of these destinations fully utilize the A340-500's long range capability.

What are Etihad Airways' future plans for these planes? What interior configuration will they have?

Perhaps to the US? Usually new aircraft to an airline get put on shorter routes for "proving" then they get put on longer routes. (JAL 777-300ER's come to mind). They'll be flying them ultra longhaul in a few months. Maybe compete with Emirates on some routes (ie JFK, SYD).

EY already serves YYZ 3x weekly on A330-200s via BRU. Perhaps in the future they will make it non-stop with A345s though.

They do plan on launching non-stop JFK service with them, but I don't know when.

That's true, but the MUC schedule update e-mail service also says A340 (the A345 I guess), however from September.



Exceptions confirm the rule.

At first, expect to see the A345s at KHI, MCT, BEY and CAI. Then for a while they will be going to LHR and CDG. Also, they are currently scheduled into CMN in September. After that, it should be the start of services to JFK, and hopefully the likes of SYD will follow.

why is JFK now being flown to and not EWR which was stated in their application to US DOT last July.

I wonder how they will get SYD rights that too on a daily basis when QF is a strong opponent of such airlines expanding to Australia and stealing their UK and EU traffic.

No plans for the A345 into MAN. Pearl Zone will be the same as the B77W and newer A332s. It is the latest A332s ( J22 Y240 ) which serve the MAN route. Not sure about loads - haven't checked for a while.

I don't know about NYC, but they already fly AUH-YYZ through BRU. But if you mean nonstop service to YYZ, then I wonder how their application for the route authority is doing. Wasn't there some talks about a nonstop AUH-YYZ being delayed pending a new bilateral between Canada and the UAE?

if EY will send their new 345's to FRA it would be very nice visitor for months like the new T7 was. In comparison only EK sends sometimes the 345 to FRA.

btw how many have they ordered and how many are -600s?

4 A345s and 4 A346s are firm ordered. In an interview our previous CEO hinted the A346s were intended for South America. The A345 is planned for JFK and later SYD.

The new Diamond Class is amazing. On the lines of Emirates but nicer in my opinion with a spacious lounge. You may well see Diamond on the B77W, note Boeing has 20 unidentified B777 orders, maybe some or all heading this way.

Today I heard that the A340-500 will definitly NOT used on the AUH-FRA flight. A6-EYC, their A340-300, will operate on this route for the whole summer schedule except tuesday's (A330).
