Hi.
I have never been spotting at LHR so I thought I might take a trip down there this Sunday to do a bit of general spotting. I think I will head for Myrtle Ave and/or Hatton Cross if the weather is from the right direction. My friend said that the suberbs of London are a bit rough and I was wondering if it was safe to stand around at Mytrle Ave and Hatton Cross on your own?
How much time should I spend there as well? I know this is a stupid question but I only have time to go there in the afternoon about 2ish. I can stay until about 8pm but is that too long? I want to see the asian carriers come in in the afternoon but what comes in after that? If its only European stuff them I might call it a day then.
Also how long is it going to take to get to Myrtle Ave from central London? I will porbably get the heathrow express as the tube takes too long!
Thanks for any comments.

Hatton Cross/Myrtle are perfect places for spotting, they are perfectly safe places to spend an afternoon in, you are more likely to be mugged in other parts of London than here. Trust me, i've done it hundreds of times. . 2pm is a good time to be there, LHR has a steady flow of traffic all throughout the day. You'll get heavies on average every 2 minutes. Plenty of BA, VS, UA, AA, AC metal coming in all the time. After 3pm you'll get the Asian heavies arriving, JAL, SQ, MH, ANA, KE, CX, TG etc.. Myrtle Avenue/Hatton Cross is about 50 minutes on the tube from central London, i usually take that option.
Have fun!

Hi EMA747
Don't go spotting at the airport anymore as I live under the final approach to 27R/L, 10 miles east. Sadly, too far out for photos, but a.netters supply great photos while I stay at home!
For an idea of what comes in between 2-8pm on a Sunday, this is a list of arrivals last Sunday between those times courtesy of Andy McGregor and the LHR e-mail list - times are GMT:

Hi.
Thanks for the replies guys. I got my train tickets so I'll definitely be at LHR tomorrow.
Looks like I wont be there until about 3-3.30 though but I should still get to see some good stuff by the look of it.
