where has American flown their 767-200's? i know they've done LAX/SFO - JFK, but have they ever gone to Europe or S. America? or Hawaii?

They sub on some Hawaii routes from time to time. also they did (maybe they still do) fly IAD-LAX (I flew one on that route back in 1999)

Do a search in the photo search engine using AA, 767-200. It will show you the locations where AA 762s have been photographed. You can specify locations by continent (South America) and state (Hawaii). There are 590 photos on A.net using this search criteria.

Back around 2001/2002, AA's DFW-ZRH flight was a daily 767-200...flight has now become a 763. I also have some photographs of AA 767-200s landing at LHR from 2000...I don't recall from where though, but that was in the days of AA sending 767-200/300, 777 and A300s to LHR (only 777s now...).

The AA 762s now fly the JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO transcon services, and seasonally fly the JFK-BDA route, and make an ocassional turn on the JFK-MIA run. Thats about it (aside from an occassional aircraft sub), as you many know, AA parked a good portion of their 762 fleet including all of the non-ER aircraft.

In the past, AA's 762s flew routes throughout the AA domestic system (note that transcons, including those out of BOS and IAD, in addition to JFK saw a lot of 762 service), and were also seen on some services to the carib.....and in the late 1980s to mid 1990s, AA 762ERs were regulars on the transatlantic services out of JFK and ORD. As AA acquired more 763ERs and 772ERs, the 762s were phased out of overseas flights.

The big question is how long will AA keep the 762 in its fleet? The 762ERs that are operational are about 20 years old......but the aircraft, in general, have flown and continue to fly long segments and therefore have a rather low number of cycles and there is no immediate rush to retire them (except for the fuel costs.....the 762 does not have great operational costs on a per seat basis). AA needs the 762 for the JFK transcons: its the right size, offers comfortable premium cabins (AA is stong in this market.....lots of the bi-coastal movie and biz crowd commute with AA between the two coasts on full fare premium tickets), etc. AA does not seem ready to "downgrade" the transcons to 757 service (and do a PS thing like UA) and flying the transcons with 763s is also an issue - AA does not want to cut frequency (the power brokers like the frequent flights) on the routes yet does not want to add seats that would harm yeilds......thus the 762s soldier on.

Many expect that, at some point in the near term future, just as soon as finances allow, AA will place an order for the 787 and that AA will use the 787 to replace its 762, A300 and, over-time, is large 763 fleets.

The photo search tool allows you to pick individual countries or continents. You could have chosen Europe or South America, and eliminated all the US locations from the search results.

Hmm...not when I flew on it in June of 2001.  Wink It was a 772 back then. I dunno, maybe it went to the 762 before the 763.

I worked at ORD for AA from 91-94. At that time the 767-200s were flying ARN, TXL, STN, MUC, GLA, ZRH or a 767-300 or even the odd dc-10 to BRU or FRA. LHR and FRA were the first to get the "scud" errr md-11

Not true, as cost per seat should not be used as a measure only becuase of all the premium seats on the 767-200's lowers the aircraft's capaicty, but even though AA only has 181 seats on these birds, they could hold up to 290. That's only 62% of potential 1-class capacity... perhaps the lowest percentage in the AA fleet.

If you were basing costs on cabin area, the 767-200 has GREAT numbers!

None of those are current 767-200 routes. The only current routes are JFK-SFO/LAX/BDA/MIA.

LAX-MIA is a mix of 737/757/767
DFW-JFK are 757's
DFW-LGW is a 767 and a 777
DFW-HNL is 767's
ORD-HNL is 767's

The 767's that I mentioned on all the routes above are -300's in case anyone was confused. There is also a 767-300 on the DFW-JFK route.

I think the -200s used to fly out of ORD to MAN and BHX.

If you go back far enough, there were 767-200s that flew ORD-LGA, replacing some DC-10s on the route. That was back when virtually every aircraft type flew the route, including 757s, 727, and MD-80s.

Both AA and UA used to regularly fly 762s on LAX-BOS as we unfortunately all know from 9/11

They used to fly to MAN. Flew MAN-ORD in one in 1988. A few years later it went to 763, then to MD11 for a short period.

He mostly did stuff to Europe.
