Yet another airline is resuming services to Kuala Lumpur... maybe.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait, from Oct06, KU413 will be swapped from the current KWI-BKK-CGK routing to operate KWI-BKK-KUL once weekly using the A340. KU411 will continue to operate as KWI-BKK-MNL but will also be increased to 6 times a week thus giving Bangkok a daily service.
KU415 will operate to Jakarta but will operate thrice weekly using the A310 via Colombo.
This is yet to be confirmed by Kuwait Airways but given Kuwait Airport has already published the Winter06 timetables - it looks likely that the service will begin in earnest.
I wonder when Etihad will join the bandwagon to start flights to KUL. Flights by EK and GF are currently operating with very high loads to KUL over this summer.

I would really like to see Egyptair launch flights to KUL. Maybe have flights operate CAI-KUL-MEL or CAI-KUL-SYD. How are the Malaysian authorites on giving fifth freedom rights to Australia?

I think the Malaysian authorities are pretty open to 5th freedom flights to Australia/NZ. LH, BA, ME and AF are some airlines that operated 5th freedom flights to SYD/MEL in the past. I think the Australians might be rather more difficult to obtain consent as QF continues to refuse to fly into KUL.
MS did plan to operate the routes you mentioned but this never materialised.

As much as I love the thought of new airlines and services operating into KLIA, if the suggested KU pattern is correct I wouldn't be surprised if it is dropped soon after. Don't know of many airlines who have successfully operated into a station on a once weekly schedule when a plethora of more frequent, more convenient alternatives exist.

The Kuwait Airways station manager here in Jakarta confirmed that change mentioned by the original poster. Jakarta service will go up to thrice weekly and the stopover point will be Colombo instead of Bangkok. That would leave two BKK tag ons freeing up, very likely for KUL service.

Egyptair had plans to launch KUL twice since 1999 but as you said it, unfortunately, never materialised. In there last attempt in 2002 they were to fly 2x weekly A342 flights (on Tuesdays and Fridays) continuing on to SYD.
Here is an extract from an article back in 2002:
"EgyptAir has postponed its plans to begin operations at Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The airline was scheduled to begin operations at KLIA on 9 July 2002, but was forced to postpone the move "due to unforeseen circumstances", according to the airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings.
It is currently unclear when the move will go ahead."
