Last DL 732 Flight?

I just saw the thread about no more 733s in DL's fleet. I was wondering if the last -200 flight has taken place, and if so, when and where?

Thanks!

There are -200s still in the schedule for the summer...I know PWM is getting a CRJ upgraded to a 737-200 on the CVG-PWM route for the summer in a few days, and I've seen a few in BOS lately (to CVG I believe) and I think GSO gets some through the summer.

DeltAirlines,

So I take it that the 732's mainly fly on the east coast now? Mainly to CVG?

DL upgraded DFW-CVG to 2 732 and 2 CR7s from 1 and 3 respectively. Also, today they have 3 732s and 1 CR7.

Both types are on their way out at DL......the 733s left first mainly because the 733 fleet was smaller, and DL terminated the 733 glass cockpit aircraft leases pursuant to its bankruptcy proceeding.

Quick note - some of DL's 732s are actually newer than their 733s. Western picked up some of last 732s built, this batch of 732s were built and delivered after WA received its 733s. (This was part of a deal by which Western cancelled its order for the 762).

All -200s are now based on the East Coast...believe crews are based out of CVG and ATL. I haven't passed through CVG since August (I'm on a streak of about 20 straight ATL layovers right now), but each time I pass through ATL, there are a few 737-200s running around. I'd think ATL has slightly more 737-200 movements, but probably just because the size of the ATL hub in comparison to the CVG hub (about 5x more mainline movements at least at ATL than CVG).

Plus DL was able to renegotiate new, extremely low leasing rates for their 732s, something like only $15k a month, if that number is correct (MD-80 is $120K).

There were only 13 737-347's to begin with. The other 737-300's were leased on high rates and had glass cockpits requiring different crew scheduling. After 9/11, the glass cockpit aircraft were parked in Victorville, but were returned to service on the Shuttle when the loads didnt justify the 737-800, and Leo and Co. were experimenting with all coach service from ATL to HOU, MDW, and SRQ. By parking less aircraft, Delta was able to eliminate two types where the fleet was small. If the lease rates on the 732's are as low as reported above, they may stay around for awhile, although in today's environment, they must be gas guzzlers.

If the leasing rates are really as low as stated above, they can guzzle gas as much as they want. They are fairly new (the oldest 737-232Adv is mfd 1983 AFAIK), MX shouldn`t cost that much and they seem to be the best A/C for such short hops. A 738 would simply be too large as an upgrade on former CRJ routes.

As of 07JUN06 DL has 18 active B737-200s in the fleet. DLs schedule changes big time starting tomorrow so within the next week there might be more retirements.

At present, any DL 732 seen at PHL are ATL flights. At one time, DL did fly the 732 on its CVG-PHL route; my only DL 732 Flight was a CVG-PHL back in August 2003.

Ive heard rumors that all the 732s will be gone come September. That would suprise me since the lease prices are a fraction of what they were, and inside the aircraft arent that bad. Im guessing the gas guzzling and more commonality still outweights the lease savings.

YAAAHOOO, about time we start getting more mainline varities in ROC. So when delta fazes out the 732's, are the present flights serverd by the 732 going to be mad dogs?

That's cheap, but then its not surprising when there is almost no used market for 737-200s. It is better to keep them flying at a ridiculously low rate than send them to the desert. I hear the desert does not pay very high lease rates, and in fact pays negative lease rates.  Smile  Smile

actually, Delta was able to do much better than 120K for the 88s.
